This is a photo of a post war fuel cut off knob. The other end of the rigid wire threaded into the knob (bottom of the knob photo) is threaded and screws into the rod that goes to the 12 gal tank valve. The rod is just a piece of tubing flattened on one end with a nut brazed to the panel end. There is a requirement for a positive hold to keep the knob FORWARD so fuel isn't accidentally shut off. THE clip was Taylor's solution. Second photo is an exploded photo of the rod knob and other pieces at the panel end. The clips are just made from thin spring steel. These are the clips I made.

You can take something like a manual choke cable and cut off the housing just behind the threaded area to make the bushing that mounts in panel. Use a piece of 3/16" rod and thread it 10-32 for the shaft. The long rod is a piece of 3/8" x .035 tube. Weld 10-32 nut on one end and flatten other end.
