It is a steel pin brazed on the handle.

Thanks Woody! My valve has that pin on it but I didn't know there was a spring. What I'm not sure about is the other end. I don't have the original cable so I'll have to fabricate something. Thanks again!

This photo shows the psh/pull tube, which is threaded. The knob is attached to a rod which is threaded and forms the male. The nut locks it in place. I think it's 10-32.

This is a photo of a post war fuel cut off knob. The other end of the rigid wire threaded into the knob (bottom of the knob photo) is threaded and screws into the rod that goes to the 12 gal tank valve. The rod is just a piece of tubing flattened on one end with a nut brazed to the panel end. There is a requirement for a positive hold to keep the knob FORWARD so fuel isn't accidentally shut off. THE clip was Taylor's solution. Second photo is an exploded photo of the rod knob and other pieces at the panel end. The clips are just made from thin spring steel. These are the clips I made. While we're in the vicinity, and you likely know this already but just in case, you'll need a means of physically preventing the shutoff being activated accidently in flight:

Scott, the clips were what the factory put on. The flip over tab was a better design in my opinion but I have never seen documentation of its being approved.

You can take something like a manual choke cable and cut off the housing just behind the threaded area to make the bushing that mounts in panel. Use a piece of 3/16" rod and thread it 10-32 for the shaft. The long rod is a piece of 3/8" x .035 tube. Weld 10-32 nut on one end and flatten other end.

There's an airworthiness directive that requires the instalation of a positive lock/guard. There is no instructions on how to accomplish this in the AD, which is why we ended up with a variety of solutions.

Ian, do you have a finger strainer in the tank or just that 90-deg fitting? Hard to tell from your tank picture.
