If you're looking for an AN7 or AN9, I don't think there is any manufacturing going on.
I got a good one on Ebay and they do appear there from time to time.
many panels have been moded to take a bendix-type switch which are available from most suppliers
ACS Gerdes is another approved switch. A7 does not have provisions for electrical (off, L,R, Both)
A9 (off, power, L, R, Both) no provision for start
Bendix and ACS, (Off, Power, L, R Both, Start)
There are some broken switches around occasionally that can be rebuilt with a Bendix behind them. You put the key into the back of the lever with Epoxy. When you put the key in it looks original and works great. Added advantage is you can take the key and lever with you.
If you can FIX it, (or someone else can) it is definitely worth the trouble. I would only advise making it into a face plate for a modern switch if it can't be saved.
Which type do you have? The A-7 (red handle) is really easy to convert, the A-9 (silver handle) seems to be REALLY rare and the 41 type (the one in the panel) is EXTREMELY rare.
I have the A-7 (red handle). The right mag misses but if you move the handle a tad it straightens right out and runs great. Does this sound like a possible switch problem to you? Mags are new and we checked the plugs also. .???
If moving the lever fixes the problem it sure sounds like a switch problem to me. The copper lands on the back and inside can crack and cause all kinds of intermittent problems. There are copper lands INSIDE too, but know what you are doing before you bend the tabs back and take it apart. There are springs and metal balls inside that will go all over the place when you open one up!

I wonder how wise (or legal) it is to repair something as old or critical as a magneto switch? Goes to ground when not expected = loss of some or all power. Goes open = hot mag(s). I'd not choose the risk and just replace the part, especially if there's ever a chance for a new owner to assume it's been airworthy during its life.
Like ANY part, you need to know how to do it. It is NOT a part you should screw around with if you don't know what you are doing (for the reasons you cite).
If you DO get one you are not comfortable with repairing, just let the Tribe know. Several of us know how to fix them and don't hesitate to convert them to a fake face plate for a modern switch when they are no longer safe to repair.
