Sorry to be vague with this answer however most replace them when the gear begins to splay outward. I suppose it you had a Taylorcraft that was without an engine and no weight OR had seen so little use that this was not occurring...5 years would be a RELATIVELY good number to not go beyond..Now let's hear from the other

Unfortunately I bought a set of bungees from Spruce about 2 tears ago and they are already showing signs of sagging, another thing after reading about the color stripes marking the year or month of manufacture I noticed they were not all the same, so Spruce just bunches what ever they have to sell you. I saw that post about the color stripes on the facebook taylorcraft site I would like to see it again if anyone chimes in.

Aircraft Spruce and Speciality aka ASS. Not the best vendor by a long shot.

I think it's worthwhile spending some time on bungee covers and even the kick panel under the front of the seat.

Basically if you keep the bungees clean, free of fuel, oil, exhaust residue, grit etc. they'll last longer.

Sure makes sense. I bet a ton of folks do not have the covers on with many not even knowing what they are. Many have the screw hole tabs broken off the gear as well which really puts them at a disadvantage.

After breaking one I change mine every 5 years. Safety cable saved me. Lucked out and got a set of bungee covers when Taylorcraft was in production 20 years ago. About the only thing I got from him other than the strut ad

There is only ONE company currently building them, the date coded thread will be the same for any supplier, also the cw cold weather bungees last longer. Spend the money on them, I do.
