I'm not totally sure what you are asking, but when I bought my Marvel, the cost outright was $1,385. They gave a $600 core charge which came off this price for a marvel core, or would give a $300 core charge for a stromberg. My understanding was the stromberg core was more of a courtesy as I was told they just went and sat on a shelf. So net with a Marvel core was $785 and with a stromberg core was $1,085. Not sure if that helps.

Thanks, Stu. Got it! I’ll look at the two Strombergs, and maybe take a peek Inside, then make a decision. ......

I overhaul Strombergs here for the UK market (experimental). They are not rocket science. There are some secrets to prevent gasket leaks, but I keep those to myself for obvious reasons, as does Mr Stromberg Man in the USA. (!)

One day I'll fit a MS carb to my C-85 Taylorcraft in the UK, when I can get a core (I have the overhaul kit, mixture cable etc)

For me it was that perpetual drip because the steel needle and brass seat never seemed to be perfectly sealed...I also broke 2 discharge nozzles off inside the carb because of corrosion.

Tim, you are right about the drip. But I personally prefer the steel needle, so there is never an issue with aromatic fuels.
I always turn the fuel off of course. As you know it's good practice to exercise the fuel shut-off system in any aircraft. But the Stromberg does need periodic maintenance/overhaul to check for corrosion in the bowl.

I once did an annual on an Experimental Starduster here in the UK, and I tried to operate the fuel-shut off valve. It was solid, so I asked the owner what he would do in case of an engine fuel-fed fire?
He said "turn the fuel off!"
When I showed him how that wouldn't work, he walked away. I ended up replacing it, with a NOS valve (essentially the same fuel valve you now sell under STC). The aircraft got wrecked later, but not for fuel issues.

My valve is owner produced parts, I gave up on the STC...feds were too difficult

Owner produced parts...that's what I meant, not STC!

Don't blame you one bit Tim!! People don't realize what all it takes, and how long. No matter how many hoops you jump through, they seem to come up with one more!
