  • I went with Bendix mags. There are a number of pictures under the thread on carb ice continued that I posted recently or let me know if you want something else. I have a spreadsheet of everything that went on it along with the cost. PM me if you would like me to send it....

  • Thanks, I appreciate it. The C85 makes it so much more fun, and it was a lot of fun to begin with. Yes, they are the Dresser 22" 8.50s. I really like them and they have held up well so far.

I did not make not of the oil temp to ambient. I have noticed that the oil temp is coming up...

  • I am not sure if I have made progress but thought I would provide an update. I have spent a fair amount of time with my IA the last two days checking and double checking things. We have not seen any indication of leaks in the induction system. He thought it might be a carb issue so we double checked...

  • Continuing the saga... I finally made it out to the airport late int he day. I spoke with my IA at length. He things it may be something in the carb related to the enrichment circuit/jet. He could not remember when the carb switched from the idle circuit to the enrichment circuit on a c85, but it does...

  • Robert - good idea on the carb. I ordered mine form Air Power. I dont think they will give me a loaner but I will check with our museum and see if they have anything. They are loaning me a prop to try the pitch right now and are pretty good about that stuff.

  • Well I didn't get to fly yesterday like I hoped, got stuck choring. I got out today and flew for an hour and collected a lot of good data. Another similar dry high pressure day like the previous.

Before flight, I pulled the cowl and check the intake tube rubbers. Everything looks in place...

  • The baffling was bugging me how I missed it, because looking at the picture you can't see it... unless you look really close. 3Dreaming is correct, it wraps down and then under. I went through my pictures and here is one showing how the baffling is set up. Gary, thanks for pointing it out though, it's...

  • Gary - First I don't know how I missed the area around the cylinders. I reused the baffling from my a65; it was never there to begin with and it had not occurred to me. I see exactly what you are pointing out and am guessing the air would go right over as well. I am going to enclose it as it should...

  • I went and flew this afternoon, Conditions were the same as my last flight. I climbed out and after one touch and go in pattern and leveled at about 2k feet. I was able to run at 2,400rpm with no carb heat for a good 10 mins or so. I flew to the end of the valley, turned around and was heading back...

  • Thanks for the input guys. I have a freshly overhauled marvel carb. Everything is overhauled or new firewall forward. I will take some pictures of the baffling etc this afternoon when I go out to the hanger.

We are right by the sound so moisture in the air is common, however this week we...

  • Here is a link to the die that I used. I was able to sand down the old threads by hand and then when smooth, use this to turn them to the correct pitch. I also had to take a small round file and clean up some of the welds on the neck of the cup so that the harness ends would seat deep enough.

  • Thanks Gary. I am running 100LL only right now. I may need to go the MP gauge route thinking it through because I do not have an electrical system and I believe a carb temp needs a 12v source.

What I am trying to figure out though is why my engine woudl be making ice so aggressively at...

  • Carb Ice - Continued

I had reported earlier that I was having carb ice issues with my new C-85. After confirming on a number of flights since, I am definitely getting ice and a lot of it. I flew today, 50' and low humidity, and I am getting ice at every power setting other than fire walled. Cruising today at 2400rpm, if...
