I also made new upper gear fairings (under owner-produced parts rules) for my US Taylorcraft back in 2016. Not rocket science at all; but some judicious heat required to anneal the metal to get the 180 degree fold along the top edge.
Do you need skis?...

My opinion:
Not likely to be the strut/lower fuselage longeron bolt. More likely the rear spar/upper fuselage bolt.

Just a few short weeks ago, I had the great pleasure of being hosted by Bruce & Lenore Caldwell, of this parish, when I was flying my Taylorcraft along the Oregon/Washington border. I will be forever grateful for their hospitality.
