We aren't trying to do custom knobs, just reproducing replica knobs that were used by the factory. That was why I collected any different knobs I could find. It REALLY helps when I can find a factory photo so I know who used the parts on which models. Many times they turn out to NOT be Taylorcraft parts. I found some small control knobs that turned out to be used on Fleet bi-planes. I gave them to the Fleet guys in Canada. They keep their eyes out for things for our planes too.

Here are our throttle handles. The white one is from the 15A in 1953. It is original. Matches one of the ones Hank posted and leads me to believe these were later just because they hung around lol. The black one is one of Josh’s reproductions

Ryan, Thank you. I am of the same belief.. that is if it hung around that long and was used earlier then it was common to our make.

For example: tailbrace wires, wing drag- and anti-drag-wires (and banjo yoke wires) were made by automotive wire-wheel spoke manufacturers.

Magnetos came from Case tractors (or similar). Carbs probably from a similar source. Certification was a different thing back then!

That is true Rob up until you see that a tractor has 2 bolts to hold the carb and an airplane has 4, they outsourced a lot of supplies but then had to have them built for the application. Tim

Funny, I was in a 1970 Cherokee this morning and looked at the interior door latch... straight out of a VW !

Actually Tim I have noticed that before in another Cherokee. Point being the manufacturers DO use what they can....

On the older Cherokees with the overhead trim crank the handle is a window crank handle from a Studebaker.

The old time car parts flea markets are FULL of those window winders. LOTS of car builders used the same handles. I just wish I knew that BEFORE I sent mine out to be replated! Cost me a stinking FORTUNE to plate them because I didn't know they were so common! As for the flat disc faced IMG_0251.JPG throttle balls I just remelted my mold for them. Timing is everything. ;-( Now the good news. I still have the original knob and can pour a new mold when I finish casting some mag switch handles for the 41 and the inside door handles (you can reuse the mold material many times).
