  • Pretzel Yoke Center Hubs part deux

I think I have a source of good quality reproduction hub centers. I am in need of a good example of the Taylorcraft emblem to complete the project. If someone has one I can borrow or steal, I'm sure we could work something out...

A good hi-res photo would probably work, too, as I have good examples of the Cessna and Ercoupe centers.

Excellent news! I'll have two when they're done (in red if poss).

I do have the emblems, but probably not good enough for your purposes.

Sounds exciting, please sign me up for two. My current ones are cracked and in poor condition.

I expect the only color we'll make will be the original red/maroon color. Does anyone else know for sure if they were ever made in different colors, or just painted?

As far as the emblem goes, what I really need is the script (font, whatever...); AFAIK, the colors were the same as Cessna and Ercoupe.

Re: Pretzel Yoke Center Hubs part deux

I have a hand full of the "buttons" with the Taylorcraft logo and a set of the silkscreen negatives already made. If you have some of the blank buttons any silkscreen shop can make a screen to print the logo on the buttons. Actually, you print the background and pinstripe in black and the silver is the metal underneath making the logo, but you get the idea.
I started a project to do just this several years ago as well as make the Pretzel balls (who out there has Tom's wood master and was going to make copies of the ball? I have your name in my files but need to look it up.). I just never pushed it because the plane flys fine without the pretzel balls and logos. I have been focused on non-cosmetic stuff. If someone wants to carry the ball (so to speak) I will pass on my negatives and a sample button, as well as my method for making button blanks by hand. It isn't that hard to stamp the buttons or silkscreen the logos and the art work is already done.

I took this photo at Oshkosh 2007. I have the cast wheels myself, but good luck with the hubs project, guys.

                        .

Mine are black as can be on the inside...and it's not painted. They were painted gold on the outside, but under that, it's black as can be.

Mine look like polished aluminum with black ink silkscreen sealed with a thin coat of clear sealer. Every one of the buttons i have is black on silver (polished aluminum).

And yes, the back sides are all painted black (although I suspect it is black anodize, not paint)

OK, sometimes the answer is right under your nose. I was talking to a friend last night. I'd forgotten he had a T-craft project in one of his buildings. Lo and behold, it had black pretyzel yoke covers. they are obviously black from the factory, so now the question is "what colors did Taylorcraft use? Were they all black, some black and some red, or more?" AFAIK, all the Cessna and Ercoupe yokes were dark red.

Between the one I got from him and the artwork posted here, I think we're set. Hank, if you want to share what you have, I'd be interested, but lets hold off until the project is a little farther along.

                            Thanks,
                            John

I'll use this as an opportunity to introduce myself - and see if I can upload a picture of my yokes/buttons.

I'm Ron Pollock and I recently acquired BC12D ser#6879 and got it home to the Los Angeles area. Bill Berle has been a great help and influence in my choice of airplane.

I'm very pleased with it and if anyone sees anything incorrect please let me know.
