Re: no shoulder harness for me
I can guarantee you my IA wouldn't pass anything unsafe. That is the first good thing about him. The second, and even more important sometimes is, he LISTENS. He knows he doesn't know everything (not like I do, and he has been working tube and rag planes for over 30 years). When we don't agree (doesn't happen often) we both go off and try and find out what is correct. I usually go to this group (and I suspect he does too). There are a LOT of things that were in my 41 that weren't original and weren't documented. As we found them, and how to make them right, we have corrected them, but if it didn't look original, but DID look safe, I kept flying till we got it corrected. Good example was the piece of thin plywood inside the seat cushion. Neither of us figured the factory ever did that, but it wasn't a safety issue. Same with the sheet of plywood for the instrument panel. Both are now fixed but he didn't break my bank while I did it.
The messed up electrical system was a different story. That got torn out before I would taxi back to my hangar. And we both agreed!
Make your IA your friend. Steve is sure mine.
