ID:	195589 Taking apart ailerons. Looks like I am going to need one of these ball bolts that go into the aileron pushrods...that is IF I can even get it apart.....any one have a complete pushrod tube in good shape with the bolts available? Or simply a lead on the bolts and how to get the steel end cap out of the tube? Heat ?

    Wag Aero has the long ball stud. For the end plug I would suggest hitting it with your favorite penetrating oil, I like Corrosion X, shoot it in around the ball and letting it sit over night. Then using a screw driver that fits the slot correctly try and turn it out.

          I have it soaking since yesterday in penetrating oil. Have not had the balls to try. Did order the ball stud today from wag aero. Had to do a search function on their web site as I did not see it listed...but sure enough did a search on ball stud and there it was :Taylorcraft Aileron ball stud.Thank you again! Will keep you posted

            I know Rob has had them apart before. Here is a photo of the rod assy.

            You might have paint down into the threaded rod end cap threads. Might have to use some carb cleaner to strip the paint. Might help.

                JIm, If you are recovering the aileron, why not just take the hinge off so you can have better access to getting the rod bolt out?

                Wouldn't you be revarnishing the spar as part of the ailerong recover, plus to get inspection eyballs on the spar under the hinge?

                  Well yes that has been done. All hardware has been itaken off the ailerons. Picture would be worth 1000 words but not there to provide one at the moment of the titl disassembled parts..

                  Hopefully the ball rod will be free of the offending tube soon.

                  And yes after sanding will be using epoxy varnish on the spars where exposed to covering materials

                    There's nothing in the pushrod assembly that can be damaged by medium heat. You can use a small torch to heat the tube ( stay below red heat) which should free up the internal adjusters and rod.

                      I will be using heat if next attemp failed. I was thinking the same thing. All steel however tube is thin wall. Do not want to overheat

                        Ok so today after several days of soaking in penetrating oil and tapping on it with some significant persuasions I got the cap loose and off. I would have thought with the oversized hole on the pushrod tube the ball stud would simply pull out...does not appear to want to exit this way. ...any thing I may be missing here?

                          In the picture posted by Mark above you can see the components. The inner spacer and cup need to slide away from the ball to allow enough room for it to come out of the hole in the tube.

                            So with the ball stud still in there ...there is enough room to slide the inner spacer/cup behind the ball stud and once out (or at least behind the ball stud it (the ball stud) will then come out ? Correct? The inner must come out is what you are saying so that must be the only way.....I know duh. I am simply saying what you said another way....

                              Loosen the plug/screw on both ends so the middle spacer and cups can slide. With the spacer slid away from the ball the ball will come out.
