Yup. Big difference. I will probably go with the slicks as I am hearing here that their standard leads have a lot of give in the end for the short shielded plugs. Just hope they are not rubbing the cowl as described above

And thanks to Woody for another heads up!Last edited by Jim Herpst; 07-15-2021, 07:23.

Jim, an alternate to consider is what Dad did on the restoration in '99. No bumps but cutouts for the top plugs.
It has and still does run oil temps 50 deg F over ambient. Engine was overhauled at 2000 hours So it "made" TBO. I have 550+ hours on the new motor in same configuration.
Attached is a ramp photo, zoom and you can see the holes for the top of the plug and lead. While it looks "different", I feel it looks better then bumps. Perhaps as Tim mentions use the 37BY on the rear and only one hole for the front plugs. Just something to consider, of course there is a bit more heat with a C-85.

That is a different twist...and keeps it clean. I am going to talk with my metal man as he is doing the install of the new cowel that the Wenglarz made for me.Last edited by Jim Herpst; 11-22-2021, 19:09.

That's what I did on a friend's T to get home from Nevada. It works fine! I still have the top cowl here somewhere. The nicest ones I ever saw were just hammer and dolly'd into the top cowl. Very graceful and not much of a bump. Wish I'd had a way to get pictures!

and yes shielded ignition Getting rid of the trunk latche cowl which was installed after a 1961 nose over. It should never have had that cowling as an early 46 build. Clean look IS also a key...to a point of practicality. So not as orginal perhaps but hopefully a safer better performing ship.
