Data Plate Mystery

Are you asking because it doesn't have a MAA plate number? Or because the build date is prior to the TC approval date?

Might it be that Taylorcraft Aviation Corporation was formed on April 1, 1968 by the Charlie and Dorthy Feris? Dates kind of don't match with when the company existed.

do you have any documentation for the replacement dataplate?

The date doesn't bother me because its a good chance this airplane was the conformity airplane for the new model 19 that was approved the following month. Unless the serial number list proves otherwise. It could also stand to reason why the ATC is left blank, because they was waiting on the new TC number. It also wouldn't surprise me if they used an old plate for the first few airplanes. Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. No one else has for almost 70 years.

OK, all good answers, but I think Rob was onto it. The aeroplane was built in Conway Pennsylvania. They probably had a bunch of old plates from Alliance they wanted to use up...........

The "conformity airplane" answer was good too, but I don't think correct. It's serial number 4-13029 N6629N and there was a 28N , serial 4-13028. There seems to have been at least one prototype, serial 12000, N5601M, an 1948 model, which lives just 5 minutes away. It may have been at the factory for a couple of years before it was sold........... nice plane----here's a pic

How does the data plate compare to the airworthiness certificate, registration and other records like logs & 337?
