  • Looking For A Prewar Sales Ad

The previous owner of my airplane documented the restoration process with tons of pictures. Among those pictures was that of a prewar factory sales ad showing an airplane with overall silver color with a red stripe. He used this image as source material to duplicate the current paint scheme. But that's incidental to the purpose of this post...

There is a close up shot of the registration number of the airplane in the ad and it happens to match my airplane. So I'm trying to determine if this was photoshopped or done as a semi - custom print after the fact, or was my airplane used as the basis for factory advertising?

So, is anyone familiar with the ad that shows a silver with red Prewar T-craft, 3/4 view from right/front sitting on a snow covered field? If so, is the registration showing NC26528?

    Many thanks!

Would you post a picture of the ad copy please? Might help with authentication if someone has a copy.

I have a fair collection of advertising, but don't have anything like that. Posting a pic would be essential. It could be an ad done by a local dealer maybe?

Ok, now that I see it, it does not appear to be a sales ad after all. Not sure what this is

I am guessing it is something a local artist whipped up for the restorer. One clue to me is the wheel pants. They don't appear to me to be original Taylorcraft wheel pants, but rather Aeronca style pants.

I don't think I've ever seen that, so can't help. It reminds me of a Charles Hubbell lithograph, but its not that. I think 3D is right, the red wing tips or bands are also not representative of a factory image. That said, its very nice, I'd frame it.

My Dad had that painting in his office when I was a kid. I've seen it at flying in the vendor area before. It is a contemporary image.

Where ever it came from, it needs to be scanned flat in high resolution. I would frame and hang that in an instant!

Agree that it looks like a period looking painting in the post with aircraft data underneath. Notice it has the original carb intake, post war grills, three piece windshield, no D window and aftermarket wheel pants. Interestingly it also has strut cuffs on the outboard ends only and you can see the old round wheels peaking over the lowered edges of the pre war instrument panel. Wish I could see more door and door window details as well as the door handle types. That would let us zero in on the age better. Of course being able to read the N number would REALLY help....but notice there is no wing big N number. That really makes me think the picture was done with a couple of antique cars later, maybe after a restoration. Those cars look REALLY nice condition too.

These days some kids might have 2 dads , but I was referring to the painting.

Sorry the painting with the silver Taylorcraft and the old cars. Dads unfortunately got ruined in an office move or something.

Just happened to be putting some old TOC newsletters in the binder where they are supposed to be and this is likely as close to a last "pre-War" ad as it gets, 2+ months.

This ad copy was in the Sept. 1994 TOC newsletter.
