Thank you for your help with my photos. As to why the engine quit...
After several meetings with the FAA and my mechanic the probable cause of the engine quitting was ice or sediment in the needle/seat of the carburetor. I had the carburetor rebuilt by Aircraft Fuel Specialists and they indicated a considerable amount of fine sediment was present.
I have attached the sketch show the incorrect routing of the cable. With that being said, any routing other than than shown in the sketch will in a probability lead to gear failure when the stop cables are needed due to overload or breaking of the bungees.
