Thank you for your offer re the engineering. That will be an option if I need to go in that direction. My Swift is based in KOKV and I may head your way for discussion/ideas. I need to fly it anyway.. she gets lonely if I don't fly her at times..
Do you have source for a copy of the brake...

  • Brake.. I am working with a DER to get FAA approval for hyd brake conversion that may benefit a lot of BC12D owners. I am setting up a model to determine the pressures produce using Cleveland Brake cylinders activated by the original pedals.. The question: is he leverage of the original pedals enough...

I agree with your wisdom. I feel competent in aircraft W&B calculations but I am open to any advice offered. I have been flying since 1956. Got my private in my first airplane 46 BC12D in 1957.Additionally I was a Civil Engineer/Surveyor for 40 years and know that there is a...

Thank you for suggesting reviewing the past records. Fortunately the TCraft was restored in mid 80's by a professional who also researched and bound documents all the way back o the factory. If needed I will get the records on Cd from the FAA as I have done before for my J35 Bonanza,...

I think you suggestion re: actual data-cause and effect is an excellent idea and be of great benefit.

I remeasured the TCraft and there were some measurement off (less) which resulted an a CG of 19.18 (the previous CG was (19.46).. Better but still out of range.

  • I am getting 19.46 as my "Empty WeightCG Position". The TCraft Manual gives the CG range of 14.8 to 17.9.. I plan to remeasure the the distance from Datum to TW center today to make certain my measurements are correct. Should I be concerned about the 19.46 CG? I noticed the spreadsheet for...

I am looking for the set up using the cables.. I saw a photo showing the grove cyl located to the right and one on the slanted fuselage tube but it only swowed qa portion of the cylinder...

  • Well, I used a plumb bob yesterday hanging it from the leading edge with aircraft level. The measured distance from the plumb bob string (Datum} to the center of the tailwheel with the the measuring tape level and I got 201 inches. I assume the is due to the
    scott 3200 Alaskan Bush Tailwheel?...

  • So..Hank. I weighed the tail with the aircraft level using a carpenters level on the horizontal stabilizer. The weight: 68.8 lbs. I have the Alaska Bush tailwheel which adds a few extra pounds. Dave's weighed 70 lbs so I must be in the ballpark!

So the tail is weighed with the tail lifted up to level flight? As we know, the weight decreases the higher the tail. The best thing I guess is to put scales under main gear and tail and get the actual empty weight.

  • Tail Weight 46 BC12D

What should the weight be at the tail of a BC12D by placing a scale under the tail wheel? What is the range? Has anyone weighed theirs?

Also, does any one have a W&B sheet that you can punch in the numbers a create a W&B with different pilot/pass/fule weights?

  • My first airplane was a BC12D. I bought it and began instruction with a great CFI.. He let me taxi out a told me to take off.. I began the takeoff roll and very shortly the TCraft was 45 degrees to the left and missed the runway lights.. My instructor yelled "he had it" and took off in the...

  • Virginia Taylorcraft Instructors

I have offered my Taylorcraft to a private pilot that was one of my Young Eagles participants. I am looking for an "old school" instructor with Taylorcraft experience. My son began instruction in it several years ago and his first instructor kept him in the right seat for a duration. He...
