I have a full set of steel aileron hinges for my 45 we can use to make copies if needed. Planning to make drawings as a couple of people have shown interest in making them (NOT the first time people have said they wanted to, but we REALLY need to address the Mag hinges before we have an accident and the FAA does it for us!)

I am in the middle of a big move and haven't been able to check in here much. I am cautiously optimistic and excited to see progress on this. Big thanks to those taking the time to make inroads with the vendors and manufacturers. I was talking with a coworker about making these and he mentioned the CNC bender as well however I didn't foresee the difficulty with coiled wire being so bad. Interesting.

I had a section of the current Martin wire at our EAA meeting the other night. We were discussing shrinking between the barbs. Someone mentioned that there is a place here in town that does wire bending, and that the guy sometimes takes on special projects. If the current lead doesn't pan out I will check with him.

Thank you to everyone working on this. I'm hoping one way or another we will
finally get a source for the wire clips.

I finally heard back from my friend with the spring company. Unfortunately, his machines can't make it. It's too long, even at chord width of 5'. He also tried one of his friends at another company and no joy there either. Sorry.

Okay. So I'm going the route of DER paperwork and rivets, but I wanted to share with everyone else that this is the company who makes the wire for spruce: https://www.tri-stateaviation.com/

I spoke with the owner and he told me they have original tooling from Martin and he says the wire they make for spruce is set up for the 3" spacing. While there is some fine adjustment possible, the machine they have only does the pre-set 1.5" (DC-3 Control Surfaces) and 3" intervals. I'm not sure the disconnect, or why its 3 1/8 center-to-center, but something must be lost in translation b/w what they have from Martin and what Taylorcraft used. It does not sound like adjustments are possible and he said that he has had many Piper and Aeronca customers use the wire with no issues.

Long story short -- I'm wondering if some information has been long lost about the differences in T-craft and Martin wire and we are just left dealing with the consequences. Hope that helps...

If the manufacturer is interested I have some short pieces of both Martin and Taylorcraft wire. Might help them find out if their machine can be adjusted for each.

Chris, did you give them the engineering drawings I posted a long time ago that I had made of the wire? I also have the ProE file as well.
