    Re: BC12D TCD question

A look at the TCDS models BC12-d and BC12-D1 looks like the Right tank was the standard issue for the BC12-D.

I just had an airplane in the shop who's logs showed the Right universal joint had been replaced in compliance with a AD. In the airplane the Right had not been replaced, but the Left had. On top of that I had to replace it again, because the shop that had done the work did what in my opinion was a un-airworthy installation.

I can put #200 in the baggage and still be within CG. Have you checked the washout? What about wheel alignment? just some things to think about. Tim
No, I haven't gotten that far yet. when my customer said Taylorcraft my head started spinning and flashbacks so I asked to look at it before I committed to doing the annual. He is good enough from my findings and feedback that I am going to do the annual and straighten his logs out in the mean time. I have never done a condition inspection before taking on the annual, during the annual I check all you mentioned.

Just for your own peace of mind doing a conformity inspection would be a good idea. My plane had so many undocumented mods it was scary! I removed them ALL and took her back to factory new configuration with only the required changes and properly documented ones left in.

REALLY lightened up the plane....which DID NOT have an accurate W&B anyway!

          Re: BC12D TCD question

Ok I received the FAA records CD in only 5 business days. so now everything is clear as mud.. So this aircraft started out as a BC12D1 which explains why the right fuel tank was installed a year after it rolled out the factory door. found the 337 for that but still no records on the left. so back to the original plan paperwork wise. BUT that brings up another issue. the airworthiness certificate states BC12D and S/N matches. that was the first thing I checked. I didn't think you could change the Airworthiness certificate. but that's not my problem if the feds made a new certificate when they have the data. S/N matches all the way back to day 1. the D1 has the mods to make it(same as a 12D) so TCD's remain the same. again any input appreciated. I have entered in the logs the fuel tank so next is to weigh it for exact numbers. owner is completely fine with this. and he had no problem removing his handheld GPS bolted to the panel.

Have him stick it to the top of the panel with some double sided sticky tape. Its sounds like you are getting it done. TIm

Airworthiness certificates were messed up all the time back then. Prior to 1956 you got a new certificate every year at annual. Often times mechanics, or maybe it was the feds, would call the airplanes what they thought they should be called. For example if you had put a Continental engine in a BL they would call it a BC. We know this isn't right, but that's what happened back then. When the permanent airworthiness certificate was issued back then they made a mistake. I wouldn't worry about it to much since it is on the same type certificate. It is a big enough problem explaining the feds when it says BC and it was built as a BL.

The D1 was an ace model. no left door, no wing tank. The left wing tank issue is easy as mentioned earlier via 337 installed by persons unknown, conforms to tcds and send it to OKC. the fact that the 1 got dropped is probably a clerical error way back when and should be no big deal.
