    I didnt want to pull the jugs on this engine, 17 hours since major and it was pushing the rocker shafts through the valve covers at 14 hours. So I used a dial indicator and a wedge (screwdriver) to collapse them at TDC. Most were in the .091-.113 range when they were fully collapsed. I just didnt have enough ass to keep them collapsed and try the feeler gauge method. I sure didnt want to pull the jugs either. Worked like a charm. Tim

    So Tim, is this done on one of those new-fangled M15 or uber hi-tech composite M20 Tcraft's with those sewing machine smooth 6 cylinders?

      From the little that I can see, I would say Cessna 172.

        It was a 172, but same lifter hydraulic units as a 65/85/200

          Tim, if it was "pushing the rocker shafts through the valve covers at 14 hours" what is the reason for that?
          And how, quite, does your wedge trick work to deflate the lifters? Genuine questions.

          I completed the replacement of a cylinder on a six-pot Continental O-470-S today, and deflating the lifters was a doddle....the whole lifting body, tappets, cam follower & all, comes out to do everything on the bench! Much easier than a Lycoming (or even an A65/85/O-200)!

            Superior has no solution for the problem, we are going to put shafts with anti friction buttons in. I will email you the videos on how it works, tim

            the spring pressure will collapse the lifter, it takes about 2 minutes, I could not do it by hand with the jug on.

                ECI for 4 of the shafts, looks like the owner may have found a couple of sets of continental pins with button, no one makes pins with buttons for the small continental anymore so it’s old stock.
