    Re: Dual Impulse-Coupling Mags?

In reguards to Tims question wether to send his mags in as cores or not I would definitely tell him not to , I just had a Bendix S4RN-21 just like his rebuilt on a 500 hour inspection for a reasonable price at Maxwells magnetos in Florida, They will do a 500 hour inspection for around $300 if it doesn't need major work . I know everyone is ga ga about Slicks , But i keep hearing from mag repair shops that Bendix is better. Just my 2 cents

If you need a core to turn in, just ask. There will be a line to trade you.

I have plenty of junk mags you can have for cores to trade!

I would much rather have bendix than slick anyday.

Not all cores are treated the same by Slick. Some will get you no core and others only partial core credit.

            They won't take 400 (early '60's ) or 4000 ( 4001 was VERY COMMON till mid '70's ) as a core.

              Re: Dual Impulse-Coupling Mags?

I tried to find good sf4rn mags for my a-65, no overhaul shop had them. The only 2 engines that model fit was the A-65-8 accessory case and the Franklin 65. The bendix is a better mag but they are hard to get magnets for. There were only 3 known NOS good ones in the world as of 5 years ago. I gave up on the Bendix and bought slicks. 25 hours since rebuild and now I have an intermittant miss. It could be a plug but I dont know yet since it has been 3 years that I have been able to fly mine. Tim

I think I goofed, I meant the s-20's. Not the bread box mags. Tim

I sent a couple of old mags off the C-90 I am building up, to ARN-AIR, he called me and said they were completely worn out, it would be best to buy a couple of new mags, I paid $1635 and got two rebuilt mags straight from Continental as S4LSC-21, they are so pricey and pretty, so far they have stayed in my bedroom, Tom

Those are opposite rotation than the -8 engine. Unless its a 90-8. Tim
