  • Chet Peek's Book

I just got my copy of Chet Peek's The Taylorcraft Story from one of Amazon's partner sellers. $40 plus shipping. A quick look shows all black and white photos but there is never the less quite a bit of detail here. Lot's of winter time reading here me thinks.

Winter, spring, summer and fall reading. I have LITERALLY read the cover off of my copy. I need to keep it in a document binder so the pages don't blow away. One of my all time favorite books.

      Re: Chet Peek's Book

I lent mine to a friend, who's father happened to be a bookbinder. Also called Chester!

I was returned very nicely re-bound and in a proper sleeve, correctly coloured & with the title in gold leaf on the spine!

I noticed mine is coming un-bound, too. I will have to look into what Rob did. Thanks for sharing, Rob.
        Cheers,

Nice, you will enjoy it for sure. I have an second for backup because the first one that I got is a little worn.

Rob, your friend really set the bar for me concerning that borrowed book I have of yours!

I have one of the rare hardback ones, of course signed by Chet. We also have a soft bound that has come apart. I think I have all his other books as well.

              Mike,

I recently purchased The Cub Story and read it. Can you, off the top of your head, tell me what the other ones are?

I was unaware there were ever hardback ones. You guys neighbors, or something???
              Cheers,
              Marty

I have a hard back if anyone is interested in buying one. Let the bidding begin.

Marty, you could also check out the Piper Story (I think) by Roger Pepperell (again, I think that's the spelling) I have one signed by the author and Bill Piper Jr.

                      Re: Chet Peek's Book

Remember all the source material for Chets book is here in the back room and the photos are scanned at the Rodman Public library. www.rodmanlibrary.com go to alliance memories and taylorcraft . They are working on search engine today ...... I am going there and may add more later.
Went there http://www.alliancememory.org/cdm/la...lection/taylor and found MANY wonderful changes.. they have the credits a bit off...... When Chet Peek was researching he came to Alliance for a couple of weeks. I thought it may ahve been a pipe dream ; it was the best thing tha t ever happened to the history of Taylorcraft. Mrs. Feris, myself , Duke Iden and many others around Alliance sure helped out. It is a treasure ; the bindings were bad on the hard copy too. I ahve one loose leaf to scan and send for information. ALL of Chets books are excellent. It was due to the Foundation efforts that the Library was able to get a grant for the eqipement to start off this Alliance Memory thing. Frank Woolfe and wife Marie ( a secretary to C.G.) put a lot of time into this endeavour. I just bought "Dragon" and installed her ; the flow of information on History will increase.

I acquired ( rescued) the negatives and prints from under a stair case as Dimit Bros. photography was being trashed after closing its doors. This was donated to the public library by me in the name of the Taylorcraft Foundation a few years later. The Alliance Argo stuff is there too!!

Chet is quite a gentleman...he autographed my books when I mentioned that he and my father (both engineers) were in England at the same period...he as a maintenance officer and my dad as an original pilot with the 381st BG (H). ALL of his materials are great reads....and getting well worn. Doc

I really don't think there is anything wrong with Chet's book bindings. I think we read the covers off of them.
                              Hank

No higher compliment possible for an author than to read the cover off his book.
