Re: Fuel Tank Filler Neck Grommet
Though a bit pricey, the perfect replacement can be obtained from this gentleman. Give him a call at: 817-477-9556
His name is David Jackson and he made these originally for the Aeronca guys and they are pretty much an exact duplicate of the original Taylorcraft grommet. Price was $30.50 which included shipping.
You can go to this link for a thread and pictures of this grommet: http://vb.taylorcraft.org/showthread...l+tank+grommet
If you utilize the search function on this forum you will find tons of information to answer your questions. Good luck!Last edited by M Towsley; 02-10-2011, 07:29.Cheers,

Re: Fuel Tank Filler Neck Grommet
The best part of the grommet I referred to is is actually seals around the neck and the cowl. Less chance of spilled gas getting in the cockpit. The plunger grommet and the ercoupe grommet still allows fuel to work its way down and into the cockpit.Cheers,

Re: Fuel Tank Filler Neck Grommet
I used the Ercoupe grommet from Univair (their p/no F40430, now $13.18) and it worked fine, albeit fiddly to get on (easier to fit the grommet to the bootcowl first and then llift the tank into position).
Edit: The Ercope one I got was more like the one to which Marty refers (i.e. the left one in the photo below). Perhaps Univair have changed their source.

Re: Fuel Tank Filler Neck Grommet
John Deere has a grommet that works. Part number R82873 and is about $15.00. It has the word FUEL embossed in the rubber. It took a little trimming but has worked just fine. The Local John Deere Dealaer had it in stock.

I used to get that one, then lost the # ' my dealer could not find it... big thanks will get one tomorrow.... many things have worked in the past.
As we know that grommet keeps the top of the cowling from pushing back in a steep dive. yes folks it had a purpose .Taylorcraft Foundation, Inc

Re: Fuel Tank Filler Neck Grommet
If that is the case, Forrest, the ones that just stick down on the neck wouldn't be as advantageous as the one that actually fits down and around the sheetmetal.Cheers,

Re: Fuel Tank Filler Neck Grommet
It looks like the one (or any one that WORKS like it) would be best for the no leak positive fuel stop from fills into the cockpit. The GROOVE for the boot cowl and a tight fit around the neck is really nice. For $33 plus it better be !
I was still amused by the old reference to the plunger cut out...Even though I am building up a show (at least attempt) Can not help but to "experiment" for fun. Great references on this site. I think we have the best forum out there !!!!!

Re: Fuel Tank Filler Neck Grommet
Yea man! I never would have thought of that either. I would assume the firewall on the fuselage front combined with the fasteners at the back edge of the boot through the "A" pillar would take up all of the loads.
I still can't figure out why the 4 piece windshield doesn't lift at high angles of attack and open a gap along the boot. Seeing light under the bottom of the windshield would rattle the stink out of me!

Re: Fuel Tank Filler Neck Grommet
Thanks to all for the great help. You guys are the greatest. Sadly, will be parting with my T-Craft soon (getting an Arrow and back to currency on IFR and can't find a way to support both) and will post info on that for membership first. The filler neck grommet was the one thing I needed to tweak, so thanks again. ...Brock
