  • Martin clips

It has come to my attention that the martin clips from Aircraft Spruce are not the right size, I wish I had know that as we threw our originals away and made no effort to save them thinking the new ones would fit, can anyone help with this problem? I have heard of some folks that my have enough of the original martin clips for sale. Any help would be appriciated.

Sounding more and more like we need to make a bending tool to make these things.

        Re: Martin clips

Ok, are the Martin clips different than the Taylorcraft wires or was it a fabrication problem. See “Wire Clips” thread and others that come up when doing a search for “martin clips”.

It appears that it may be possible to get the correct clips from someone like Aircraftspruce assuming the fabricating machine is working properly.

There are (at least) two DIFFERENT spacings on the wire clips. The Taylorcraft clips are different spacing than any of the others.

            Re: Martin clips

Regular Martin Clip spacing is 3" while Taylorcraft Martin Clips are 3-1/8" spacing.
I was lucky & got enough Clips to do my plane with the project.
AirCraft Spruces lists reg Martin Clips & also Taylorcraft Martin clips, I would asume they are diff. Different part numbers anyway. I suppose you could phone them & ask spacing on Taylor ones? Or you could simply order a single roll & see how they fit? Surely someone must have purchased some from them lately!

                Re: Martin clips

Here's the difference between the original Taylorcraft wire and the Martin wire as sold in 2002 by Aircraft Spruce, P/No 09-19400.

I also note that they also sell P/No 09-19800; what is the significance of this, I know not.

Well I have not measured the hole spacing but I guess I'll order the taylor craft ones and hope for the best. Man I wish I had known this. Oh well such is life when doing a project such as this.

So how many of you are going to get a 337 for that mod?

                      Yes...hole spacing on Taylorcraft wings!
My wings were in almost perfect, as in brand new shape, holes were not enlarged or marked up. The jig however that makes the holes in the ribs at factory must have been out of spec as one row of holes on both wings was out enough to be a PITA. I ended up straightening the 90* & rebending it. One row on both wings was spaced at about 3-1/4"

I wish I could tell you where my Martins came from but I see in Spruce one roll covers 25' I recieved two rolls with my project & one roll did the both wings but for two ribs. Sorry other roll is not for sale, another Taylor project being started this winter.

                        Re: Martin clips

Has anyone used the Cessna clips in place of Martin wire , and is that legal if it fits, The Martin wire sold by Aircraft Spruce is 31/8 inch spacing, and does not line up with the holes in Taylorcraft stamped ribs, also they have only one type of wire available, it would require a Z bend as previously disscussed, Has any one have any old Taylorcraft wire or know of a good option?

Just for reference, when I did my wings last fall a took some pictures and did a bit of analysis.

I'm not sure what I will do if and when I run into another cover job.
