      Hi Chuck,

Thanks but the .pdf that you put up is not the .pdf that I was referring to and that the link I attached points to.

Look at the one that I put the link to.

It's relatively cheap to get belts re-webbed. I changed the color on my Navion's belts and I think it cost $10 per belt from Hooker. The kicker is the belts need to have a TSO tag on them. No vendor will reweb without it. It just has to be legible enough for them to justify putting on their own tag. Of course the TSO tag should be checked at annual anyway...

              Re: Shoulder Harnesses

How did the the thread name get changed above from "Shoulder harnesses" to "Looking for past copy of THE TRAYLORCRAFT NEWS"?

The post above looks like a response to the "Looking for past copy of THE TRAYLORCRAFT NEWS" thread.

              These are separate threads.

                Re: Shoulder Harnesses

Dave: it's because I moved posts from one thread (on old Taylorcraft newsletters) to this one (on shoulder harnesses). For some reason, the title follows; I know not why.

Nor do I care too much. The subject matter is more important than the title. The VB bulletin software is British; don't blame me: I'm English

Rob, thanks, I thought was something wrong, did you see my thread about double posts? It seems that something is actually wrong there. Dave

I did, and I suffer the same. I don't know what causes it.

We used the Hooker harnesses on ours. Easy installation. Have a look here:

                        Re: shoulder harnesses

Does anyone have a couple of the slotted metal ends for a Y-shoulder harness that the lap belt buckle fits through? I picked up a nice nearly-new Amsafe inertial harness...fella was unconscious when the pulled him out and EMS cut the harness just above the fittings, then figured out how to release the belt. The two fittings were (of course) then lost. Thought I'd re-furb the harness for my brother to use in his homebuilt...have new webbing for the Y but short the two slotted-ends darn it.

                        Thanks

                          Re: shoulder harnesses

You should be able to get a nice set at almost any salvage yard. Lots of times it is easier to get injured people out by cutting the straps than reaching around/under them to get to the buckle. I doubt they pull the seat belts out of cars when they crush them and the metal parts should be common.

                            Re: shoulder harnesses

I installed shoulder harness's when I rebuilt my BC12-D many years and last February they probably saved me and my passenger from serious injury when I crashed and ended up upside down in a snowdrift. I put them around the tube just behind the seat near the ceiling. When going through one of the many interviews with the FAA, the investigator asked if I had a STC or 337 for that. I said "I don't think so, and I don't give a damn, they saved my fanny". Cathy, the FAA lady said OK. End of case.

                              Re: shoulder harnesses

Shoulder harnesses are just a log book, they (FAA) were challenged on installing safety equipment and making it too difficult to install while it could actually save someone. If they weren't willing to install it because of the rigors of FAA paperwork and it kills someone, they could be liable for not preventing an injury. Tim

                                Re: shoulder harnesses

My harnesses are from an F21 and the rear headliner is as well.

They attach to the cluster in the picture by a cable covered in vinyl tubing and wrapped around the cluster. On an F21 the same cluster has a plate welded to it that has a hole that the longer cable bolts too.

The cable comes thru the slots shown in the plastic headliner section.

The wrapped cable makes a small bump that can be seen in the fabric on the outside. There are 2 pictures of that.
