Is there any welding of tabs required for installing a shoulder harness? I believe I've seen a scheme for installing without welding, but this would be the time to install whatever mounting points are required. Anyone have any experience? - Mike

Re: shoulder harnesses
Mike,
There is a lot of discussion already on the forum. Search on shoulder. For example, http://vb.taylorcraft.org/showthread...light=shoulder.
My Hooker harness installed simply by strapping to the place the lap belts were under the seat, and to the cross brace above and just and behind the seat.Dan Brown

Re: shoulder harnesses
Same here...My shoulder belts looped over the cross brace...I notched the wooden former to accept the belt attachment loops... As an aside, I am so happy with the shoulder harness, I am doing the same to the 7AC, which does require welding attachment tabs for the front/rear shoulder belts. DocDoc TF #680

Re: Looking for past copy of THE TRAYLORCRAFT NEWS
YOU DIDN'T PUT IN YOUR SHOULDER HARNESS"!?!?!?!?! DO IT NOW! We lost Josh and he might have made it if he had them on. DO IT NOW! I will get with you on some easy ways, but DO IT NOW!

And yes, the scanner is a great offer, but only if you are around to use it.

Re: Looking for past copy of THE TRAYLORCRAFT NEWS
I don't want to EVER go through that again. I never have gotten over loosing Josh. Let me know what you are looking at and I can get some good photos of how I put mine in. I put a set of Cessna 150 belts in mine that are really nice. Got to find another set in red and I will use the blue ones in my 45. Looks just a bit funny to have blue belts in a red plane. ;-)

Also for whoever needed info on the seat belt wires under the seat sling, I brought home my extra one when I was out last and can give you all the dimensions to make one. I need a system to keep track of what I am getting for folks. I get the parts and can't remember who needed them! I think I am getting who-za-macall-it's disease.

Re: Looking for past copy of THE TRAYLORCRAFT NEWS
Hank is absolutely correct about good quality shoulder harnesses. I flew for years , t crafts, colts, tri pacers, champs, on and on with lap belts not giving it much thought. In 2006 I watched an instructor killed in a T craft and the student seriously injured when the aircraft stalled on the third touch and go takeoff. The panel killed her instantly. The plane reportedly had bad plugs and year old auto gas. She had 3500 hours and had flown banners in Florida in a Stearman for many hours. The Stearman I owned had excellent military harnesses. This spoiled me. After a time I really liked them. ( the t craft belonged to the student, not the FBO. She made an exception for the student. She usually only taught in her own well maintained cub. ) there's a message here somewhere. Hooker harness is probably the way to go, not cheap but good never seems to equate with cheap especially in aviation. It's only you life!Last edited by Joe cooper; 08-07-2014, 19:30.
