Re: Some days are better than others...

Global warming is just a temperature trend....it's been happening since time began.....warm up, cool down....warm up.....OOPS...ICE AGE....then warm up again....get the picture?

"Explanation: Sometimes, after your eyes adapt to the dark, a spectacular sky appears. In this case, a picturesque lake lies in front of you, beautiful green aurora flap high above you, brilliant stars shine far in the distance, and, for a brief moment, a bright meteor streaks by. This digitally fused breathtaking panorama was captured late last month across one of the Chena Lakes in North Pole, Alaska, USA, and includes the Pleiades open cluster of stars on the image right. The shot is unusual not only for the many wonders it has captured simultaneously, but because lakes this far north tend to freeze and become non-reflecting before a sky this dark can be photographed."

Re: Some days are better than others...

The problem with the "Global Warming" crowd is they only give the high temperatures and not ALL the temperatures checked.
We had a real problem at NASA with the Global Warming crowd screaming they were being "gaged" and not allowed to say what they believed. In reality, if you asked for documentation of their "facts" they get all wild eyed and lump you in with the Holocaust deniers! They never DO produce their data! We caught the "Al Gore" crowed moving the temperature sensors to airport ramps from the grass and the ones in town closer to the air-conditioner heat exchangers to drive the numbers up.
Like I said on one of the threads, I have lived on the tidal waters of the Chesapeake for 23 years and watch the tides EVERY DAY. The average water level hasn't risen an inch in my back yard for that 23 years. A good friend on the other side of the same tidal river from me swears it has risen several inches in the last few years. Looks to me like her yard is eroding. The water isn't higher (what I'm measuring) it's just closer to her back door. (She is a Gore supporter by the way)
Don't believe ANYONE (including me). Go out and MEASURE it yourself. It is getting warmer (in some places) and COLDER in others.

Oh my dear fellow... you're not seeing the real meaning or the real beauty of Global Warming. As a former grantwriter and professional BS artist, I see it very clearly. Global Warming is a fundraising tool, not an Earth Sciences phenomenon.

People don't understand the name correctly... it refers to people across the GLOBE, who with the proper manipulation will WARM up to the idea of supporting one political cause or another. The only "levels" that are supposed to rise are the levels of financial support.

Why, here in Los Angeles during the high temperatures over the Summer, we had prime time network news reports that seriously discussed whether a 110 degree day in Los Angeles was evidence that Global Warming would put LA under water within a few years. By some miracle, they found people on the streets (in low-rent areas, surprisingly), who went on incoherent rants that Global Warming was an intentional method of oppression by the racists to keep minority families from being able to live at the beach with 43 screaming kids, or a vast conspiracy by the oil companies, the aliens, and Elvis to tax the oxygen in the air. Funny, they didn't interview any scientists as I recall...

Hmmmm...not sure whether I should 'chime in' on this thread or not, but what the heck! Someone asked about Alaskan's opinions about global warming. Well, we're ALL FOR IT! I kept shoveling, and shoveling, and shoveling snow off my driveway last year. It's been very cold (and clear) this week. The density altitude is fantastic! My T-Craft LEAPS off the runway! But, soon I'll be digging out the Red Dragon just to get the 0-200 started.

The truth of the matter is Earth's climate is CYCLICAL. Yes...the climate warms, and then it cools. If anyone takes the time to look...ALL of nature is cyclical. Every 5 years or so we get lots of rabbits around here. Then about a year or two later we get lots of foxes and lynx. The foxes and lynx EAT the rabbits and have more baby foxes and lynx. Eventually there are so many foxes and lynx that they are eating all the rabbits. It becomes VERY HARD for a rabbit to survive the winter, much less find a date and make more baby rabbits. Once the rabbit supply runs out the foxes and lynx start getting real hungry. (Now here's the hard part...) Eventually the foxes and lynx get so hungry it's hard for them to survive the winter, much less find a date and make baby foxes and lynx. Once the fox and lynx population dies down (because they're REAL hungry), the rabbits have a MUCH EASIER time finding dates and making baby rabbits. Next thing you know we have rabbits all over the place!

Nature moves in cycles. It's everywhere we look. Why would we think our climate is any different?

What we really need is a Government "save the rabbits" program. Of course, this will also involve an expensive re-education program for the foxes and lynx to train them NOT to eat rabbits.

OK...I'm done ranting. Let's talk about airplanes again...or least if we talk about temperatures, let's talk about density altitude.

PS: The walruses and polar bears will be just fine. Once a bunch of them die off, their food supply will replenish itself and they will be in 'Fat City' again.

                  Hey Jim!
Would you consider running for office while we talk about flying?
Lots of guys on here actually MAKE SENSE on topics like "Global Warming". We need that in government! You are welcome to keep flying and reading the groups comments while you serve.

This picture was taken 2 days ago...right now it's snowing and visibility is a quarter of a mile. I guess I'd better yank the floats off! Dick

...what a sweet, sweet picture. There are still a few die-hards on Lake Hood, but the land-based tie downs are filling up fast.

                      PS: Hank...thanks for the vote!

My take on global warming is that humans must make it happen. How else would you explain the fact that the polar icecaps on MARS are melting? It must be because we sent those pesky little rovers over there. It certainly can't be a natural phenomenon.
