Gap?

Attached is a picture of the alerion push-rod attachment hardware. I just drilled my holes and for grins attached the hardware. There is a gap of about 1/16" between the two pieces of hardware (as shown). Is a gap OK and if not, can I simply put an appropriately holed washer in the gap? - MikeH

Between the push rod bracket (the vertical piece on the left) and the hardware that supports it (the horizontal piece on the top); the line points to where I now have a 1/16" gap - MikeH

Are you saying the bolt head is not pulling down tight against the surface of the bracket?

There should not be a gap between the two and the bracket does not look square to the spar either. Have you pulled the plates to check for cracks?

That's a poor pic of the original install. I'll get a pic of the new install and post it tonight.

If a 1/16" gap did appear, could I use an appropriately thick washer to close the gap? - MikeH

Just bolt it together, it will suck up tight when its together. Tim

No, that will put the bolts in a bind and side load the hole which could propagate a crack. Install an appropiate shim of the correct thickness. The threads on the stud should be long enough to handle the length

By 'stud' you mean the bolt on the push rod, correct?
And the correct thickness washer will make an excellent shim:dance: - MikeH

I am certainly no expert here, but a close inspection of the picture showing the bracket shows the right side of the vertical bracket to be slightly deformed. Would removing the bracket and straightening the right side help close the gap?

Hard to tell whether straightening it would decrease or increase the gap, either way it seems like a good thing to do first.
