I have not been able to find replacement pullys. I would like to find the name of the manufacturer the the now defunct factory was using. DOes anyone have a part number or name. Univair, wicks ect. don't seem to have the corect size.

Here is the info on the new pulleys that the factory was using. They are the newer ball bearing type, real nice.

The info on the left is for the 3" pulleys, the info on the right is for the 1 3/4" pulleys.

I purchased several from Harry in Texas but they were always giving me a little runaround about the delivery. Thankfully, they never jazzed out my credit card.

When they were giving me the runaround a couple of years ago, I called the pulley manufacturer and they said that contractural agreements disallowed them from selling direct. They don't have them in stock and make them to large order.

This is definitely one of those things that could be purchased in quantity and eventually sold off for a profit by any concern. Univair would trade them for gold bars, probably, if they agreed to start stocking them again.

I eventually had to drive up to Dart Field in New York state to beg for some used but serviceable pulleys.

The new bearing style are definitely desirable. They will last forever.

I contacted Ralmark and the pulleys are propriatory to Taylorcraft LLC, and they would only tool up to make them in lots of 100 or more at $10.00-12.00 each, I bought 16 from the lads in NJ, at $25.00 so I did well not to buy a large lot. If your pulleys are not broke, you can install the bearings yourself and you can get them from spruce. I know of several aircraft that are flying with them. Tim

Are you saying that you can install the ball bearings yourself? What are they sold as from Spruce? I don't see them anywhere in the catalog.

PS too bad Harry doesn't still sell them.... I paid $10 for the small ones and $16 for the large ones last year, but I only got 4 of the small and two of the big. They refused to sell me more but promised to call me if they came in. They probably owed Ralmark for the first batch.

Out of the very large order I placed with them the only thing I did recive was a complete set of the ball bearing pulley's. I want to say they were a great deal being priced at only $230 something for the entire set....that set of pulleys better last forever because out of a several thousand dollor order they were the only parts I ever received! Oh well.....for that price they should last for ever.......they are very nice.

The lads from NJ were the previous owners of Taylorcraft that were in New Jersey, and I paid $400.00 for 16 pulleys to replace everyone because mine were just worn out. We found a standard bearing from spruce that took a AN3 bolt and bored out the pulley to accept the bearing in a slight press in fit, I am not a fan of doing this but it does work and makes a better pulley than the bushed ones. The original ones in my bird were so bad that .060 wire would fit between the pulley and the bushing. I wanted new so I just paid the 25.00 each for the pulley and WOW did that make a difference. It also made a difference when I got my Yoke shafts dechromed and rechromed, and I made new bushings for them and got them polished up so the yolks would be smooth. Oh well at least my project is finally back together.

I re-bushed mine with slightly bigger bronze bushes pressed into opened-out pulleys.

Hi guys,

Classic Aero Here. We now have in hand all of the pulley documentation for the 3" and the 1.75" pulleys used in the Taylorcraft, and we are considering an FAA certification, with a production run.

We have had several inquiries from users seeking to purchase these over the past year, and we commited to a production run if and when, the data was collected. We have an FAA-PMA organization that will certify the pulleys but we do not want to undertake a several thousand dollar operation if there is no continuing market for the inventory.

SO. I am looking for a purchase commitment for about 20-30 pulleys in each size.

Any indications or advance orders would be appreciated. Anticipated delivery is 6-8 weeks ARO(s) above. The new pulleys will be ball bearing style since those last longer without wear, and they improve the control feel and resistance to cable wear. Our end price is anticipate in the $20-24 range for the completed products after engineering, certification, and processing costs. Our estimate is based upon those costs noted for the special pulleys we do for Luscombe that are very similar.

Well if you just order them in Quantity from RALMARK, then then you dont have to reengineer anything, they will make them, they just need enough for tool up to make the run profitable for them, and the last I looked, they dont need to be FAA PMA if they are produced under FAR 21.303b2. They would just need a 337 stating that is how they were made.... Tim

Can you manufacture parts under FAR 21.303b2 if new or FAA/PMA parts can be purchased? We've had this discussion re: wing struts.

The Regs do not make any exceptions to if there is an FAA-PMA'd part available or not....so YES you can, and since the factory is now closed, you can't get them now....
