  • A Good Picture of how the upper baffling is installed on a BC12D

The fuselage is at my metal man having all the Wenglarz fabricated sheet metal installed (Boot cowl, and engine cowl). He is going to be making me a new upper baffling from the old 65 items but will be fitting the new one specific to the 0200 currently installed for such mock up purposes. Just need some good pictures to share that show some detail on the install of the upper baffling on a 65.

    Thank You

Mark, Scotts Blog is indeed a wonderful item Thank you for the refresher which I have shared with my metal man. NEXT Question I can see from my old baffling as well as Scotts Pictures how the parts connect to each other. What I forget and also do not see is how the upper baffling is held to the engine? Does it simply rest on it? I know the ignition wires run through the back piece with two holes (One from each mag) but there has to be more to hold it to the engine.....

The baffling is basically clamped in place around the engine, with exception to the lower baffle under the spider.

What makes it clamped in place? The way it sits around the cylinders and then all screws to one tpanother piece of the baffling ? Is that what holds it?

There are two rods the go over the top of the cylinders. the bottom is held by a long screw that attaches the baffle from the front and rear to the inner cylinder baffle.

Yes we have the top rods and I know how those go. I am not familiar with the long screw that attaches the bottom baffle from the front and rear to the inner cylinder baffle. Does anyone have a picture of this?

              Thanks

Here's a pic of the Spring arrangement I came up with to hold the lower part of the front and rear baffles to the intercylinder baffles.

Alternatively use a washer and cotter pin at each baffle and hook a small spring across. Too much tension and they'll wear through quickly.

                  These are the intercylinder baffles

You can see the hole for the spring in the old part. Not yet drilled in the replacement.

That is very helpful Scott! Now I just need to get some patterns to get those interior baffles made as well as the attachment fittings that fit on the fins. Lord willing one day 43831 will fly again and honor my Dad!

Jim, Found some more baffles at the airport last weekend. Not sure if they are more of the same or different ones. Need to take photos.
