I don't think that is standard. Hub caps screwed into long castle nuts that hold the wheel half together.

As already mentioned, they are (or may well be) magnesium! It's not difficult to weld; it just requires the right equipment!

that is the mount holes for tripod L-2 style hubcap mount.

Pre war airplanes used the tri-pod mount before the L2. Look at the date on the wheel, and I bet it is 1941 or before. Real early airplanes like the A model, and maybe early B models did not have hubcaps.

The later style three screw hubcaps are hard to find, the early single hole are next to impossible to find. I found a set back in the late 80's early 90's for the BL I restored, and they were not perfect. I don't recall having seen any for sale since. I was told the single screw type was easy to lose, as they would spin off when landing.

We did have some domed caps made back then, but they did not have the proper rolled bead edge.

That is what our A model will have, with NO brakes. Unless we decide to put wheel pants on.
