Any one here ever get complete boot cowl (in its three pieces) and engine cowl from Maxwell Wenglarz ? How was the fit ? Or should I say how was it to fit? Thanks Jim

I would take the airplane to him to fit it. My left side is 3/8" difference in width than the right so it makes building anything a challenge if you are not there to fit it. TimN29787

Tim, He does cut everything oversized is my understanding just for the very reason you mention. Same issue here as well. I am betting it takes an experienced metal man to finish and install everything given the over sized necessary. It appears no one so far has read this that used him/ them for these items. Every thing I have heard is positive on their instrument panels,bungie covers and glove box doors. The boot cowl and cowls are no picnic no matter who the fabricator.... least imhoComment

Its the distance between the door and firewall and that has metal that is formed, I had to build 3 on the right side before it fit correctly...N29787

Going to give this about two more days. I am not concerned with the Wenglarz as to what they do. They are first class. Just wondering how difficult it is to fit up. Tim you probably nailed that.! Any one else?Comment

Any cowling regardless of the source will need to be fit to the airplane. To Tim's comment on the boot cowl, I remember Forrest saying that there were at least 3 different lengths of boot cowls to account for the different airplanes. Remember tolerances on these airplanes were + or - 1/8".Comment

Yes, if you have your old boot cowl drill it apart and ship it to them. It will be a great help in making a new one that will fit the airplane. I have made a new boot cowl for a pre war open cowl airplane using the old firewall, but I had the old pieces to copy.Comment

Don't know if others have found this but my lower boot cowl was jmmed hard agains the brake pedal trunions. I fabricated just the lower half of my boot cowl but formed a relief (bump) to provide clearance for the brakes.
Have a look at your old cowl to see if this is an issue. The originals were made from soft material, so they would eventually form around the brake pedals.
