  • Midwest Taylorcraft Fly In

Okay, I guess it is time to make it official. I have hinted that since Oshkosh was cancelled that we might have a fly in here at the Olney-Noble Airport. We will host a Taylorcraft fly in on July 17th, 18th, and 19th. This is not going to be a big fancy shindig, but just a place to gather and visit with like minded Taylorcraft people. You can make it what you want.

We have 8 marked tie downs on the pavement, but you will need to bring your own rope. We have plenty of space in the grass, but you will need your own anchors.

You can camp under the wing, or there are a few motels in town. A Best Western, Super 8, or a place called the Holiday being the best choices. If you want to sleep on the air conditioned hangar floor that is okay too.

I will have drinks available here at the airport. We will have a couple vehicles available for trips to town. I will have a grill and flat top available for cooking. We have plenty of cooler/refrigerator space.

If you have any questions please give me a call at the airport. You can find the number and airport information here, https://www.airnav.com/airport/KOLY .

I'll be coming in spirit. I'll bring my own tie-downs for the grass.
I like the idea of camping in an air-conditioned hangar! I have a pump-up airbed.
I'll bring some English G&T and some proper beer.

I'll be about 4,000 miles away, so I expect that satisfies the social-distancing rules!

Same distancing here can't fly as Sport Pilot through Canada I'm told. Might sit under my wing and have a ginger ale and hot dog too. Hope the gathering is great fun with with good weather!

Any chance of setting up something on line for those of us that can't get there for real?

We have a garden hose out back.

I'll see if I can figure something out.

A garden hose may feel pretty good in July.
              Thanks!

Hank, just get in the car and drive. That is what I am planning on doing.

                    Hey Gary,

You got me wondering. Aren't there some regs about where you can fly in the US and a holder sport pilot license is not eligible to fly there but if you hold a private or above and are flying as a sport pilot (no - medical & rated a/c) then you are ok?

                    I recall that.

I am wondering if a similar reasoning applies in Canada? i.e. what really counts is what is printed on your license.

Or am I all wet about this?

                    Dave

Dave, Canada wants a medical regardless of certificate and the : https://www.tc.gc.ca/en/services/avi...ould-know.html

Unlike higher certification a Sport Pilot certificate requires training and signoff for certain airspace: https://www.gleim.com/aviation/faraim/?leafNum=61.315

So no flying in Canada for those acting as a Sport Pilot without a medical even if it's a Basic Med so far: https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/...ed-makes-three

One from Louisiana, and my son got an email about 2 coming from Michigan. I've heard rumors of 4 coming from Northern Illinois. We have a couple based here along with some projects.
