  • Tail Brace Wire Lengths- BC12-D

I am looking to get the correct tail wires for my BC12-D. I see in the parts list the upper is A461 (I think its listed in Wag as 40 5/8" long) and lower is A4029 (listed in wag as 36 1/2" long). But the Taylorcraft kit is listing A461 and D-40 (44 1/8"). So, which is correct? A461 + A4029? or A461 + D40?
    Help please!!!

There are at least 2 pairs of lengths for the older aircraft, the prewar are one set and the post war are another. I am not sure about the F series airplanes though. Tim

Im not sure which is correct but The Wag Aero listed lengths were correct in 2010. don't believe they would have changed that.

For BC12-D with the taller tail, (52" from the bottom of the tail post to the top of the vertical fin), the upper wire is 44 1/8", and the lower wire is 40 5/8". The pre war airplanes with the shorter tail, (around 48"), use the 38 1/2" for the top wire.

Are the bottoms the same between the prewar vs post war? Tim

I think so. I had 10 sets made by Bruntons 20 years ago or so. I had to send a few back to be shortenened for the pre-war models,

I am pretty sure the bottom is the same. The position of the boss for the wire in the trailing edge of the horizontal stabilizer didn't change between models, and the position of the tabs on the fuselage didn't change. The only difference is they moved the mount in the trailing edge of the vertical stabilizer higher, because they made it taller. That is the reason for the longer wire.
