I will make my own for the '38. I want to just get 599er back in the air. Its a 1940.

Who can quiclkly tell me the difference between the PN# 651 and 650 windscreens. I have an order in to LP Aero but they cant even give me a dimension to double-check. My screen is 36" wide at the wing roots.

B-A700 is prewar, 1551 is postwar, per my 1984 factory catalog

Mike, I should have been more specific.....are there dimensional differences between the two and if so what are the differences?

B-A700 fits prewar so it will be longer at the door posts for half moon dash. 1551 fits postwar so its shorter at the door post to match later retangular dash.

So a pre-war has a longer A pillar edge and a post war has a shorter one. Can anyone measure a post war and I will measure my 41 to get the actual measurements. There seems to be more than a few planes that the fuselage doesn't match the year and using the other windscreen would be a lot easier than changing the fuselage back! That was the problem (one of many) with the 40 I was going to restore. I also am getting close to doing my 45 windscreen and it has a 1010 steel fuselage like a pre-war but looks different than my 41. That dimension could tell me if my fuselage is a left over from pre-war or used left over steel in a post war fixture.

                      Hank,
As another point of reference, my '38, '39 and '40 fuselages all measure 24 1/8" to the top of the dash carrythru fube. Tape is hooked on the top of the wing root fitting.

                      Mike,
Does boot cowl width affect windscreen in any way? My 1938 has a later closed cowl firewall.

This back from LP Aero Plastics. It makes sense that if in doubt, order the 651(B-A700) and trim to fit if needed. I was happy to see that both are the same width.

I think the difference in the edge comes from the shape of the instrument panel, and not a change to the airframe.

Fuselage structure is the same. The difference is in the boot cowl. One the prewar the bootcowl extends further down to meet the half moon dash at the lower cross tube. The postwar dash is more retangular and therefore taller, so the boot cowl does not go as far down on the door post.
