  • Fahlin Propellers is back. Visit us at Oshkosh.

I have restarted Falcon Propellers and I am bringing back some heritage by changing the name back to Fahlin. Fahlin Propellers has a long history of building exceptional propellers of "Superior Performance" for nearly 85 years. By teaming up with Catto Props to handle the manufacturing, Fahlin has been brought into the 21st century using state of the art CNC machining of the propeller and molded nickel leading edges to vastly speed up production time. Websites have not been updated yet, so look for that to happen over the next couple months. We have started with the Continental A and C series engines, and will be following that up with what we have the most requests for. Fahlin Propellers is a FAA certified propeller company has applications for most all vintage aircraft that used a wood propeller plus have built numerous authentic WWI replica propellers. We will be located with Catto Props in the Aircraft Spruce exhibit hangar "A", booth 1143. There will be Oshkosh special pricing for those who place their pre-orders at the show that will not be repeated. Thank you and look forward to seeing everyone at the show!

That is exciting news, hope it goes great and congratulations. Would you please expand on what you plan to offer?

Will it just be a wood prop with a TC as a competitor to Sensenich?

Will it be a "composite Catto" prop for the little Continentals? If so, any performance gains other than weight over the McCauley 1A90?

If it is a new composite prop what is the path that would let us install it? A TC'd prop that our TCDS considers a wood prop?

I'm laying out my Oshkosh vendor (mad dash, lol) route now and planning to stop by.
      Thanks.

This is nice. Hope the best for you in this venture, I have a Fahlin 338/31 hanging on the wall of the Office of my AC Brokerage Business. It is for a 40 HP. Now making me think of refinishing and polishing the Brass. Hmm (Anyone reading here) what finish is on the old ones?

Fahlin is a TC holder for wood props. It has been well established over the years a Fahlin will out perform a Sensenich more often than not. The current plan is to get production back going and once that is done we will start tweaking for further improved performance.

spar varnish but if you want it to remain looking old after refinish use amber shellac. Personally I prefer an original finish.

Re: Fahlin Propellers is back. Visit us at Oshkosh.

This is a Fahlin prop brought back by my mother from Columbia University in the 40's where she flew in the aviation program. She also flew Taylorcraft's here in Springfield, but mostly Aeronca Chiefs at Columbia. I looked up the specs on this prop but cannot remember, off-hand, what it went to. Definitely not an A-65. Supposedly the prop was unairworthy so a mechanic gave it to her as a souvenir from her school. I cannot find any damage on it. Obviously the years have taken a toll on the finish, but it is kind of a neat alligatoring effect.

What is the longest and flattest pitch props we can get for a small continental...A-65 to o-200, somewhere between a 76 to an 80" looking for a good climb prop for a bush plane...

Catto now offers 76-78"...maybe they'll be available from Fahlin.

                  Recent correspondence below:

                  "Hi Gary,
Thank you for taking the time to fill out a quote. Are you looking for better bottom end performance or better cruise speed? We could run our 78x38, it should give you around the same cruise speed, maybe a few more mph at the same RPM and it will improve your bottom end performance. Or we can run our 76" which would be slightly better on takeoff, but improve your cruise speed.
Both props are $2950 and you'll also need a crush plate and bolts which are $75 each.
                  We are experimental only.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

                  Kind Regards,

                            Nice prop, Marty!

Drawing D-700A, looks like it could be for a Gipsy Moth or a Travelair 12Q . Left hand rotation - made for the American built Wright Gipsy "L" 320 85-90HP. Tiger Moths ran the later inverted Gipsy engine with more HP: http://www.woodenpropeller.com/MWPFahlin.html

Good luck on the new venture, Ragwing nut. I fly one of Ole's props - a wonderful chunk of lumber!

                            Best,

Glad to hear you're going into wood propeller business. Do you have an application for a C-90 prop? I also have a beautiful Falcon 72-42 prop/hub/bolts that came off my tapered shaft A-65 that I no longer need. What do you think would be a fair price to ask for it?
