  • 1945 Taylorcraft Sales Guide

I recently picked up off of Ebay an original 1945 Taylorcraft Sales Guide from Essco Aircraft, an item I have never seen before. This was written as a Sales Manual and Sales Guide for everyone connected with the distribution, sales and service of Taylorcraft Airplanes. This manual offers interesting insight of a 1940's era airplane company selling its product.

It consists of over thirty pages, (most two-sided), of items such as how to profit from sales, the story of Taylorcraft, advertising aids, features, Taylorcraft prospects, making of a successful salesman, how to be successful selling Taylorcraft airplanes, how to organize and work your territory, pre-planning sales interview, the interview, how to meet objection and competition, how to close a sale, preparing a proposal, demonstrating the Taylorcraft, self development and Taylorcraft policies.

I have not listed everything but it contains pictures and information all in one manual. The three-ring binder is in very poor condition but the gold lettering on the front is readable and the content is in very good condition.

I am contemplating having a local blueprint/copying service reproduce this in color as-is and offering it to members for cost plus shipping. I am only going to do this if there is sufficient interest to make it worth my efforts. Only the contents of the binder would be reproduced, not the binder printing. You can see this item in the following Ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Taylorcraft-...vip=true&rt=nc

Please PM me if you are interested, I have no idea as to cost as of this time. This is just a preliminary message to see if folks are interested. You will not be locked-in to anything until a final cost is determined.
    Cheers,
    Marty

Any idea where we can get some of the three ring binders like that? Wonder how they made the gold printing on the cover.

Not exactly well-described in the original auction ad, this is the folder's condition. I am not sure how the contents stayed in such good condition. I will attempt to scan the cover face and see how it turns out. There appears to have been a sticker on the bottom part at one time.

I want everyone interested to keep sending me PM's so I can get an approximate count. I believe there is definitely enough interest in copies of this to take it to the next step. I will keep everyone informed as I obtain more information as to cost of the reprint. I also plan on having these reprinted on a heavier paper, similar to what the original one was done with. I think that is one reason why the pages lasted so well.
            Cheers,
            Marty

                      Re: 1945 Taylorcraft Sales Guide

Ok guys, I am getting closer to an idea of cost. I have yet to determine a packaging option but I plan on having them shrink-wrapped at the printers to help protect them. They will be 3-hole punched and printed on 100# paper to more closely match the original and be a little more resilient to handling.

Shipping will probably be via media mail to keep the costs down as much as possible.

Without pricing packaging I am hoping to get the overall cost to around $25-ish. This can be a losing proposition on my part as I have done similar things in the past and taken a bit of a hit. I really want to get this Guide out to people who want it. As a side note, I happened upon another post by one of our own where a similar guide went for $200 on Ebay about a year ago.

With all of this being said, if this pricing does not scare you away DO NOT respond at this time to this message. If you object to the price SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE.

Any other questions or further interest are welcome via Private Messaging.
