    Re: elevator stop?

We'll guess I will just have to make the head and get some threded rod. If only the elevator bolts where fine, oh well. Just look at it and 5/16 fine like you all said.

I think the wire goes across the top longirons just behind the horns for the elevators.

Just looked at the 1939 project in my shop and on the bottom side of the top longerons aprox. 1-1/2 in forward of the tail post, it has a 1/4 in. round rod welded side to side. The top stop has a 1/2 in. tube welded shut on end and welded to the tail post aprox. 1 in. above the top longeron and angled forward and upward, aprox 2 in. long. These measurements are estimates and NOT measured.

Well here are the finished elevator stops. Just might need to trim the length. Thanks for all the help.

This might have been stated earlier in this discussion, but you can buy a bolt named "elevator bolt" at specialty supply houses.

                Here is one example:

McMaster-Carr is the complete source for your plant with over 595,000 products. 98% of products ordered ship from stock and deliver same or next day.

In stead of guessing call up the factory they can tell you what you need to know,

                        Rick,
You might have missed it but we don't have a factory to ask or pretty much any support for our planes from the owners of the TCs. This group and the Facebook group (which share most of the same members) are just about the only place where Taylorcraft specific information is available to keep us flying. We would LOVE to be able to get information from the factory!

If ANYONE has a number for the fctory where they will actually answer the phone (or any other kind of communications) PLEASE post it here for all of us.

                        Hank

                          Hank,

I have tried on numerous occasions to e-mail a contact I have with the factory over the last several months to no avail. I was following up on statements made to me about parts availability to those outside of the U.S. and when the rest of us would be included. As stated before, and last I heard, the factory was having problems with the Feds getting approval, etc. Perhaps Forrest has a number he would be willing to share, but you would probably have to contact him directly.
                          Cheers,
                          Marty

Andrew, did your friend machine these from bar stock, or did you weld the head onto a bolt? Do you recall what type of steel he used?
