Hank, I don't think changing bungees is a strictly calendar event. I know it is time for new ones when I get out of the plane and can see the bungee covers still standing an inch or more away from the belly of the plane. I think those whose planes are kept in warmer climates, or those who do a lot of off airport or rough field landings, will need to change theirs more often than someone who only makes greaser landings on smooth runways in cool weather. That is just an opinion and not based on any empirical facts. I have had my current set installed for several years. I once had to change them after only two years. So I think it is a combination of the quality of the cords to start with, the type of flying you do, and maybe a little to do with the weather. Bottom line, when the gear starts to sag it is time.

With that said, I think I would like to take part in the mass bungee cord purchase. Better to replace a little early than to risk a failure.

      Re: Bungee Question

I agree with all the foregoing: bungees are an item that are "on condition" but calendar time (and diligent regular inspection) are a must.

Worn or torn or oil-stained cotton covers, or sagging legs is an indication of trouble in the nether regions.

Personally on my BC12D, I use one of each so as to give a stiffer ride, but it reduces "John Wayne swagger" when taxying in a stiff crosswind, so less likely to pick up a wing.

(as an aside, I'd like to give similar consideration to tailwheel leaf springs, but that might be the subject of a separate thread, if anyone would care to start a new thread on the matter).

        Re: Bungee Question

        Richard,

Part of the problem, worse on L-2's, is the oil breather venting right at the bungees as well as exhaust residue.

              Re: Bungee Question

when i got the new bungees s.b.c. industries inc last September I got 2 9010 HD and 2 9010 HDX the rings were a single set that i ordered the HD's were $29.89 each and the HDX's were $38.10 for a total of $135.98. that is more then at spruce but not to much and they were 3 days old when i got them. Hank and i talked and I will pick them up and ship them from here, they will fit in medium flat rate box from the Post Office so shipping will be the same for all of them and he gives a brake on volume orders.

Did we ever get enough responses from people to have new ones made?
Count me in for a complete set.

                    Re: Bungee Question

OK here is the price brakes on 9010 hd rings if you get them as a single they are$ 29.89 each if we order 20 rings they are $22.42 each and if we order 50 rings they will cost us $14.95 each. So if we get 12 and 1/2 planes that is 50 and the cost will be $59.80 plus $12.35 for U.S. postal medium flat rate shipping for a total of $72.15 shipped. From the time we get payment to David at SBC he will have them ready in 3 weeks. Then i will pick them up and box and ship to who gets them. Just checked ACS 9010 HD are $19.75 each or 4 at $79.00 plus shipping that is $6.85 less then ACS then add shipping

Let's wait for Hank to see this so we can coordinate what we are going to do. Will let every one know soon.

Please add Richard Pearson to the list of names. I would like four 9010HDs. Just let me know how much and where to send a check. I will let you know the shipping address in a PM later.

                              Thank you,
