  • A65 Cylinder Overhaul Shops

I have 3 Continental A75 or A65 cylinders that may have cracks in the exhaust ports.

My cylinder shop will junk them, but I have heard that some cylinder shops can weld the cracks and yellow tag the cylinder.

Does any one have a connection with a cylinder shop who can repair (weld) a crack in the Continental A65 or A75 cylinders?

ECI in San Antonio used to do this repair, but stopped several years ago. Looking for other shops with this capability.

I have several cores you can have for 75.00 each, they look to be crack free. Tim

      Tim-
I am waiting on the condition inspection on the 3 cylinders- maybe all are good for reconditioning, maybe not.

Where are your cylinders located? Are they cylinders only or do they have valves and rocker assemblies? I may want up to 4 if available...

        Mike,

Though I personally haven't had work done here I have heard good things about this shop from a friend: http://www.poplargroveairmotive.com/...nce/index.html
        Cheers,

I know that Harrison Engine Service in La Porte, IN does weld repairs. If it is cracked call them and tell them what is going on and they should be able to tell you if it can be repaired.

Poplar Grove is good, as is harrison. Both have done work for me. Harrison is a lot more reasonable price wise. George

There is a cylinder shop in Tulsa that will fix them or use to be. The name escapes me right now.

That is Brown Aviation. They do good work. I have a full set of cylinders rebuilt by them on Barnstormers.

Brown is a good outfit, and they still weld cylinders.

Yes, a couple of mine had cracks, but they took care of it.

Steve, I was not able to get the cylinders pulled, they will have to wait until the weekend, I tried to PM you but you cant receive PMs. If its too much of a hassle, I understand. Tim

I have talked with this shop: h**p://www.dongeorgeaircraft.com/cylinder.htm
they have experience welding A65 cylinders and the person I spoke to seemed knowledgeable. I ended up not needing the services so can't make a recommendation one way or the other. Good information on their website however.

I used this shop in the past and found it advantageous to switch to Harrison.
