Does anyone have any pictures of Dave Rude's gear jig? I can't imagine it would be that terrible to build, then any IA could sign off the major repair of a gear leg. Sounds like a good investment to me.

I agree, it would be fantastic to have another source for new gear. I'd have to think that more replacements will become necessary as these airplanes approach one century(!)
I can't see why the tie strut can't be repaired or replaced without a jig. The gear is rigid in every direction as long as the rest of the structure is not disturbed,
Appears to me to be relatively straightforward to cut the top end, duplicate and tack the tie strut on the bench, fit it in place, before final welding. Am I missing something?
Is it a standard size streamlined tube?
I can do and document the work if you can get it to Grand Portage MN. I can also have it certified, but cost-wise you'll likely be better off if you can take care of that part.
Just mail it to Altee, get it fixed and modified the way you want, mail it back, cover as necessary, reinstall. Sign off log and do 337 for the repair, check wheel alignment, then fly. or buy the univiar gear, sign off log book as a replacement and fly it.
Are you going to buy stream lined tubing and build a tie strut or purchase one from Univair ? Would it be hard to fabricate the lower bracket that attaches to the wheel assembly, ?
