Thanks Tim for the read. His engine manual I loaned and never got back.

Merry Christmas and I hope the new year is good for you.

We have 3hrs 41 minutes and 49 seconds of daylight today in Fairbanks. Every second counts. Tomorrow we loose another 10 seconds then it's back to more daylight. But we also have about 6.5 hours of Civil Twilight to brighten things a bit, versus about an hour of the same in the middle of the Lower 48 States. Tim recalls this I'm sure.

Interesting. Do you have a regulated means of calculating civil twilight for the purposes of determining Day/night VFR?

                  Just here: https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/fairbanks

In local Class D airspace the tower will prompt for nav lights if needed and the pilot is confused. Of course there 's the "fuse is blown and will get it fixed" reply for non-lit aircraft.

Up here the Sun hovers along the southern horizon hence the long Civil Twilight. Down there it abruptly rises in the East and sets in the West most days. My first trip to Hawaii I was amazed at the short time between daylight and dark.
