    Re: Restoring a BC12-D

    Thanks Richard.

I was not able to do it when I tried I could turn the nuts ok but the wire jammed tight before I got the nut completely unscrewed and off the end of the wire.

Next time I'll try harder and wiggle some things and see if I can do as you did.

    Thanks for the info.

    Dave

        (My snip of Richard's post)

This is the spoke spanner I used; I know it's not engaged on the nut (it's hanging there for photographic purposes). Spokes in the UK are a BA thread, which may affect the spanner size.

Does anyone know if a BC12 can be updated to F19?

            Steve,

Some will say "yes you can". Others might say "no you can't". You can end up with almost the same thing as an F19, by using Terry Bowden's Harer/Gilberti STC. This STC gives you three options. You can use the long motor mount, which allows you to increase the gross weight to 1500 lbs. The STC also allows you to install a C85 engine. Obviously this isn't the same as the O-200 the F19 has. But if you also purchase the STC to use O-200 internal parts in your C85, you end up with a quasi O-200. From what little I know of it, you still can't get a hundred horsepower out of the engine legally.

From a financial standpoint, you would probably be better off just buying an F19, even if you had to restore it. There is one for sale in Alaska right now. http://anchorage.craigslist.org/for/4841820144.html

Hi all, has anyone install a 0200 engine in their BC12D? If so what prop did you use?

If you install say the 85 hp cont. You can always do the Don swords conversion to make it an 0200. The 85 itself makes a great difference in the performance of the BC12D. As for the correct prop, call east coast propeller in Lancaster penna. Ask for Randy.

I would use a McCauley 1a90 7443, its on the type cert for the F-19 and climbs mucho better than that short Cessna 150 prop that is also approved.

ya terry can now sign off 0-200 now but he said it's rpm limited to 85hp also if you dig in the forum and search the interwebs there are a numbe of taylorcrafts that have 0-200 or larger up front

sucks all the cub guys get all the cool mods

im in the same boat I have an 0-200 I can use its in my dads 150 but I'm not going to spend money for less hp

on a side note Titan engines is going to build a new 0-320r it will be 230+- lb and there looking at 170-180 hp God what would that do in a tcart
the more the exp market gets the more I want to build a big tcart and go it alown

Installed one on my Deluxe and got it approved when i had the permanent airworthiness done. If Terry wants to use the paperwork as basis to alter his STC the N number was NC53500

I used the 74-43, but it is a little too flat for my liking.

I have pulled a wing tank without removing the wing. All I can say is it is a SOB.
