The main reason they crack is because of their design. People tighten the tie strut bolt down to tight. I know there are some cast reproductions that are machined with a bushing so they can be tightened down, and prevent that from happening.

That might be a simpler solution than mine. Even if I do go ahead and make mine I think I will use the steel tube bushing idea!

This one is cracked through the pant bolt holes. They are a horible casting, easy to see why they crack.
