    I have a 1940 BL-65 currently registered in Canada. The serial number is 1819. Does anybody know how to find out what the original U.S. registration no. was for the aircraft when it came off the assembly line in the United States?

    Normally you would look in the FAA registry under serial numbers and it would show you the original times the SN was used. Just have to sort through all the different plane manufacturers who had that number (19 planes in your case). Unfortunately YOUR plane isn't listed. I checked MY list of N numbers and serial numbers and 1819 is also not listed there. There are listings for SN 1896 and 1816 which were NC numbers 24476 and NC 2654. "IF" the serial number you supplied is correct I would think your NC number was a few higher than 2654. Maybe NC 2657. I checked that NC number and there were numerous past planes that used it all the way back to a 1919 JN-1 Standard bi-plane that had been de-registered, but no Taylorcrafts. Are you SURE that is the correct SN for your plane? Remember th stamped SN on the fuselage is NOT always the airplanes SN.

      Serial number 1817 is N24477. The tended to use blocks of N numbers, so yours probably would have been 24479. That being said sometimes there were jumps or mix ups in the serial number N number trail. Also the FAA doesn't show N24479 as being previously de-registered, but I don't think their online records go back far enough to catch some of these that were de-registered way back.

        Does the CAA have the equivalent of getting the FAA "CD" records? Your aircraft was imported at some point and would have had a US registry prior as it was obviously built here. Perhaps those records would show what the US # was when it was changed to the CF-xxxx or older number.

        Maybe Scott might know if Canada does have this service as he tracked his history.

        You could also guess off Tom's estimate and order the 24479 CD from the FAA and see if the registration records lead to Canada.

            3Dreaming was correct. More research determined that the original number was 24479. It was used by two other airplanes since 1955 when ser. no. 1819 was exported to Canada. When I checked with the FAA, I was told the number was not in use now and was available. I paid the $10 fee to reserve it and the registration with the original number should be completed this week.
