    Re: Status of Taylorcraft

Ideally someone, (Forrest), who actually spoke to the Taylorcraft folks should respond as I had limited e-mail contact and absolutely nothing from them since.

Perhaps Hank has more info??? Anyone with more info jump in, please.
    Cheers,
    Marty

Sorry, but I have not made it back to Brownsville yet as I alluded to last November. I was down there once but it was on Sunday but did not go by the Taylorcraft location to see if anyone was there.
Maybe I'll make it back down there before I head back to Indiana in late June, but I am not holding by breath expecting anything from them.

I haven't heard a word. I keep waiting for the factory to go up for sale again. If it does, WE need to buy it! Can't be worth much on the market.

Has anyone else checked the taylorcraft.com web site lately? I tried it a couple days ago. It's not finished but there is much more to it than there used to be? Claims of being up and running soon?

            Re: Status of Taylorcraft

Claims of being up and running soon were made to me about a year ago. I also posted their short range and five year plans. Still nothing...

Oh, I notice on their website they are looking for investors, Taylorcraft merchandise will be available soon and they are in the process of getting PMA approrval for parts.

Taylorcraft will be in full operation about the same time Funk will be in full operation.

Hank if Funks come back they will probably be using a 150 HP. engine. They are heavy and built like a tank.

Is the GO-145 version an upgrade?

                    Or?

                    One had a C-85 also.

                    Engine du jour?

The last factory built Funks were 85 HP continentals. I was at a school house that had the remains of the factory inventory that the owner had bought. There was enough parts to build some complete planes and a lot of wings etc, incluuding new 85 HP Continental engines. I can not remember the Dentist name or even the town where the parts are. Big Daddy on this forum can tell you more about it. I should have said 150 HP or higher engines . There are some Funks that had paperwork done and done this.

Back in 1986 or so, in Evart, MI., I looked at and flew one of only two Funks in the country with the O-235 STC at that time. It was freshly recovered, had new wing spars and was a rocket. Selling price was $6800 and I could not scrape anywhere's near that figure together after having just started a family. I wish I had written down the N#.

I have flown an 85 hp funk, very nice flying plane and very similar to how a taylorcraft flies. My grandfather was very close friends with the Funk brothers since he grew up in Coffeyville where they were based.

I must have been wrong about the 150 hp, but i was sure i read in the Funk Flyer that paperwork had been done for the 150 HP. I guess my mind is gone. I have met one of the Funk relatives and he was wanting to rebuild one of his Funks. I think his name was Don and lived in Indiana.
