  • throttlle cable routing

Once again I have encountered a problem, that should be simple , but no definitive answer. I have searched the threads and the opinions on this very. What is the proper routing of the throttle cable from the firewall to the carb. A. Does it go over the top of the shroud? If so where does it go from there and what holds it in place? B. does it go under the shroud? Same follow as in A. Any pictures would be appreciated. I understand there are variations , but how was it done originally. I have my original throttle and it seems to be in great shape.

On mine, the throttle cable goes over the heat muff, over the kidney tank. Then down to the throttle arm.
It's kind of a miserable fit.
The attached picture is not of a TCraft, but it approximates my intallation.

Mike here are some photos I took of Forrest's old BC-12D. This is how I set ours up as well. Sorry I can't seem to locate a photo of my actual engine. I think the clamp by the oil tank may be a tcraft part. The engine I bought for ours from an Aeronca did not have it, and we reused the on from our old engine.

Both of my BC-12's had it over the heat shroud and then through the oil tank neck area. That bracket in Ryan's photo is just like mine and is a pita to get to. I used a piece of rubber tubing on the cable that goes over the shroud to protect the shroud and cable.

          Hi Laz,
This is how the service manuel shows it is routed and looks like Ryan's picture of Forrest's old plane. I believe Mine has the original cable and it looks like the one in Ryan's picture also. Not sure but wondering if with a replacement cable or different firewall outlet location is why some have it routed differently?

I re-routed my throttle cable through the firewall.

If I recall correctly, the cable originally went through a firewall aperture about 1" below the fuselage fuel tank, so I blanked that hole off and drilled a new hole a little higher (just beneath the fuselage tank, so as to make the angle that the cable goes across the exhaust muff a little less severe).

You can do a search, a cessna 180 cable has the correct length. McFarlane carries them and uses a rod end. Tim

I did the same thing, but now the cable on the pilot side of cockpit almost or does rub or at least touch the bottom of tank. A fix for that? Or not a problem?

                    Lee,

Add some cable ties (zip ties) to something to keep the outer sheath from rubbing or slapping against the tank underside. Or put on some of that curly-wurly cable bundling wrap (like this) [cheaper to buy elsewhere] to at least minimise contact with the tank.

"Curly-wurly, (as Rob calls it), or also known as plastic spiral cable wrap on mine too. Works well.

A simple, neat and effective way to address situations like this is to place a dab of Proseal or RTV between the cable and the tank surface. Use a shim/wedge if necessary to hold it off the tank until the sealant sets up. The dab acts as both a standoff and fastener.

Scott which adheres and stays flexible longer, pro seal or RTV?

They need to use high temp which is UBER expensive.

Tim, though I am not 100%sure, mine looks like the garden variety spiral wrap and has been on there over ten years. Still good and pliable.
