I was a bit shocked after tallying the restoration costs thus far and wonder if I will have put more money into the plane than it will be worth by the time I have it completed (not counting any labor of course). For those more experienced in this, what would you expect a nicely restored example with a newly overhauled engine be worth?

Re: Taylorcraft worth
It is amazing how much a guy can spend on one of the loves of his life. I couldnt get a third of what i have in cost. But its been 20 years.
What i have spent on just the upgrades i could of bought one that was a show winner not counting the cost of three motors. But I can honastly say it was worth
every penny. Here in Alaska 46 bc-12d c-90 hp motor wheels ske's floats. 1500 lb gross wt. 29 inch bush wheels. maybe 35.000 .Lance Wasilla AK

Re: Taylorcraft worth
I couldn't get half what I have put into my plane even if I didn't count the original purchase cost. To me she is priceless and I could NEVER sell her. The first time I retired I took a business management class where we each had to build a complete business plan to complete the course. I did 4 business plans (because I wanted to). When I turned them in the instructor called me in to talk about one of them. It NEVER made money, lost every year and sucked the start-up investment up and then required an annual infusion of funds just to continue. She asked why I would turn in a business plan like that when the other three really showed promise.
The one that never worked was restoring antique airplanes, and I told he it was the only one that held the slightest interest to me. I WANTED to work on old planes, and the one page I didn't give her on "Aeroapplications" (the name of the company) was how much I could afford to put in to the process every year from my own pocket just to keep it going.
I gave away the other three business plans to others in the class whose goal was to have a successful business and never kept track of what my plane cost me again. I have lost money every year and just don't start new projects if I don't have the money already bankrolled.
I can tell you from experience there IS a small fortune out there in old GA planes. I put it there. If your goal is to make money, get a job flipping burgers, you will consistently do better. I fave flipped a lot of burgers, but never run my hand over the bun or fries and got the sense of satisfaction I get EVERY time I touch my baby. Some things are worth more than money.

Re: Taylorcraft worth
As pointed out $25 is not unreasonable but that's for a used plane!
You can consider yours new again.
& you know exactely what you got, that's worth much more to me!
If they were still making them how much would a new Taylorcraft cost??46 BC-12D Taylorcraft

Re: Taylorcraft worth
Remember just a couple of years ago when Joel had the $70,000.00 Taylorcraft. That's how much he had in it. It is very nice, I saw it last summer. But, it went for around $29,000.Cheers,

Jay Leno once said that if you made money on a car restoration, you didn't do it right. I think that this applies to airplanes to an even greater degree.Bob Picard
