Chuck, I think Terry has made some important points. I had my airplane reweighed after completing the repairs to damage it sustained in the wind storm a year ago December. It had been previously weighed seventeen years ago. I was not concerned about CG change but I wanted know the new empty weight. I always felt that my plane weighed more than previous weight and balance computations. Considering the changes that you have made I would be concerned about CG change and to a lesser extent empty weight gain.

I believe that the longer a plane is in service the more weight it will gain. Silt and water turned to mud inside wings, fuselage, etc. My plane gained 70 pounds or was always heavier than the weight and balance showed. Perhaps a mistake was made before? Perhaps not. At any rate I was shocked an dissapointed. It is what it is!! I have lost thirty pounds from my carcass in the last year so I do not notice any performance issues. Changes in density altitude is where I will notice it...There is a safety issue here. My useable weight has gone down... from close to 500 pounds to closer to 400 pounds.

The new weight and balance cost me $300. Very professioally done using a computer program with a (keep at home) manual showing equipment list and the process of weighing with diagrams and the same info in a small laminated binder with flip sheets to keep in the aircraft with different weight and balance scenerios and blanks that you can enter your own numbers and wipe off the laminate after. It also shows scenerios with skis versus wheels. If I still had my floats and if If I do again that will be added to the manual and flip binder.

Money well spent. It is professionaly done and It makes it easy for anyone to do a weight and balance quickly. If the FAA or a check pilot or who ever asks for my weight and balance I have it readily available.

Okay Chuck, since no one else has I will ask.....how did she run? How much time have ya put on it so far and what's your oil & cylinder temps showing? I'm very curious about the baffle set up and how well it works because that was a bit of a problem with crispy with the 0200, the oil temp run up around 200-210

Ok Kevin it was 86 deg yesterday when we flew it and climbed as hard as it would held 60ias and oil temp was 175deg and never got any higher the airplane felt and handled the same as it did before but it did get off the ground a lot faster and climb was much better will try to fly today and get some more numbers

Have started the paper work for the engine and came up with this the C85-12-F with the accessories i used weighs 204.34 lbs the A65-8-F that came off the plane weighs 195.35 lbs as set up a difference of 8.99 lbs now throw in the battery switches circuit breakers that adds 16 lbs for a total weight gain of 24.99 lbs and most of it is under the cowl

Hey, congratulations Chuck! I'm glad you got her flying and I'm sure you will enjoy the 85 as much as you enjoy the big tires! What did you end up with for a prop?

You need a 71-42. You will notice a stark performance improvement when you have the correct prop.

I don't know how much more performance Chuck can take. He is like a giddy school girl now!
                          Hank

Wow, giddy school girl references in the same sentence with Chuck really tumbles the brain gyros! He is NOT normally the giddy school girl type, but he sure seems ecstatic about that engine!

I'm curious to know what your engine oil temps do this summer when it really gets hot & humid....keep me informed.
