If I remember right the Taylorcraft TC and rights were bought by a group from Mexico (something about wanting to go back into production when things failed in Texas). Remember, I am going on memory here, some details may be wrong. If you KNOW, please chime in. I DO remember at the time a group of us was trying to buy the TC and rights but we were out-bid. There has been no noticeable movement by the current owners and I would assume it is because they have found out you CAN'T MAKE MONEY building airplanes right now, at least not Taylorcrafts.
We (our group) didn't intend to build airplanes, we wanted to build parts and provide restoration services. Our time will come again when the current owners decide to unload their "Taylorcraft factory". We should get ready to buy it then so that the Taylorcraft owners around the world OWN the rights to their data. I really like the idea of building on the success of the web site and bringing the Foundation into the mix. Forrest really is a good guy, but I know from the questions I get that a LOT of requests fall through the cracks. I KNOW I must owe a lot of people drawings, pictures and data I have lost track of. Like Forrest, this is NOT how I make my living, it is a passion and I do it because I ENJOY it, not because it makes any money. Trust me, Forrest isn't getting rich on Foundation dues. That said, IF we could combine a new Taylorcraft corporation with a new set up of the foundation and club headquarters at a site dedicated to supporting all of us, we could have what most of us are looking for. We could eventually sell new airplanes, but it would be by direct order. The business plan was to take an order for a new plane, get a substantial non-refundable deposit, and build the planes as ordered. As you can imagine, we did NOT expect a lot of orders. We expected a lot more people to ship in a damaged fuselage for repair in factory fixtures, or complete wing rebuilds, or gear repair and overhaul. Maybe we could convince Forrest to move to warmer climes. He is still a WEALTH of history and information on Taylorcrafts. If he was in an environment where he wasn't constantly being drawn away to mow the grass and run his FBO he would be available a lot more and be surrounded by like minded people to spread the work around. Forrest doesn't need to work more on the Foundation, what he needs is a staff so he doesn't waste time on the stuff we all dislike doing. Bringing him aboard in the "Factory" would be good for all of us.
If anyone wants to see this happen, we originally had access to the facilities used by "The Fighter Factory" in Suffolk VA where they rebuilt some of the best WW-II aircraft in the world. They have moved to Virginia Beach VA and their facilities are still available. I am sure we could still get a great deal from the city of Suffolk to set up there. We have to be ready the next time the rights to Taylorcraft are available again. Plenty of retired Navy, Air Force and Army aircraft mechanics wanting to make a few dollars working part time when we need them here. Lots of antique nuts looking to work on old planes. It wouldn't make a lot of money, but it could survive and keep the Taylorcraft alive into the future.

How do you feel about moving to South East Virginia Forrest? We still get enough snow to look pretty, but most times it melts off by noon. I don't even own a snow shovel or snow tires here. Plus the sea food and BBQ sure beats anything in Ohio!
I'm sure he is a nice guy, he just needs to get organized or get some help. I'm going to Ohio in the morning, too bad I'm going to be on he wrong side of the state. If I were closer I'd stop in to see the projects and talk to Forrest because I think that might be the only way to get a hold of him.
Bob, pm me a paypal addy for donation for support of this forum only. If I knew the the foundation was seperate I would have sent money long ago. I will pony up $100 now. Who wants to match me?
I am thinking that many folks will prefer to send less than $100 based on the silence after your post Mike.
That's all good in my opinion. If the foundaion wants about $30 a year then $100 may be more than folks had in mind for the forum. Well that's my opinion anyhow.
If/when Bob gives an address to send to(snail mail or paypal) then contributions can flow and folks can make up their own mind about what contribution is right for them.

Ok lets think about all this before we go and change how things have been done for a long time. Yes Bob should not fund this by him self i think we all agree on that but also we have Forrest and the foundation to think about also they do go hand and hand and we need to bring them both together to make information from the foundation more accessible instead of almost imposable to get if it is gotten at all. So before we start funding something I think we should concentrate on obtaining all the information and documents that Forrest claims to have so we the Taylorcraft owners can have easy access to said information. Now instead of a flyin lets have a work session this summer bring the necessary tools and copiers and get this info organized and in a place we can access it without so much hassle. Then we can address the funding of the foundation and the website.
I was a member of a group called IMAC. This was for scale model aerobatics. You could join the group right on the website. It would issue a member number and you could print a membership card as soon as you joined. it also tells you when your membership is about to expire. I think something like this would help the foundation. Imagine no checks in an envelope lost on the desk. No stacks of membership cards to fill out and mail. The money could go straight into an account for the foundation with a portion used to pay for the website. Not having to do this by hand should free up time to do some of the other foundation projects. I think maybe a portion of the forum should be kept for foundation members only, like an area for tech data or other materials held by the foundation.
i have no interest in attending the fly-in. but i would definitely attend the mentioned "work party".
I have tried in the past and offered, on this forum, to spend quite a bit of time in alliance (ill take vacation and spend a week there) to get the drawings and other technical information copied electronically so it would be more easily available to members. But i was never able to come up with a suitable scanner without spending my entire rebuild budget on it.
AND I would re join the foundation if this information was to become attainable.
As of right now, for me, there is no reason for me to go through the hassle of being a foundation member- I get all the information i need and then some right here on the forum.
Bob- get a paypal link up and I'll match ragwing's donation.
I know almost nothing about building or maintaining a website like this, but it seems fairly simple to me:
1- get everything from the foundation scanned.
2- create a "member only" section of this website.
3- require "members" to be current and paid up foundation members.
4- have all the scanned info available electronically in the "members only" section
OR
have all the drawings available for anyone, but charge a couple bucks each to download them
Tribe Forrest is VERY RELUCTANT to help with access to imfo when on good terms if we force something we may not get anything lets see what he is willing to do to help with this to resolve the lack of access to needed information

I know, I was making up for the last 7 years I have been on here, that is about $15 per year give or take. Point is every bit helps and it is there is no reason why this board should not be supported just as the foundation is. Something is better than nothing.
