      Hello Skyboy-
Welcome to the forum. There are lots of people on the forum who can help you with the rebuilding...

I too have a Tcraft in parts for restoration, and I am looking for a C-85 or O-200 to put on it.

I also need paperwork to register my plane. You don't happen to have 2 N numbers in all the parts?

Thanks, since I visit your airport from time to time and have my kids and Grand Son living down there, I had already thought about pulling on your ear for advice.
Just retired the first of July so one would think I'd have lots of time to do this, but so far i'm still looking for it.
Again thanks for the offer and I'll take you up on it.

Mike, the paper work that I have gotten so far is only for N5080M. I have picked up another airframe but like you...I have no papers with it.
          I'll keep you in mind.

I owned this plane before buying the '38 & it was flipped before with considerable damage. Spars broken, mags smashed into the firewall, engine mount & cockpit tubes bent. It was on floats near Rockford IL & kids cut all the fabric. It has disc hyd brakes & an 85 HP. The heel brake cables ran to the master cyls in the landing gear Vees. It climbed like crazy. I saw it for sale called the seller who said it had blown over in a windstorm & I told him what really happened but he didn't want to hear it. So it's been totalled 3 times at least. Anyone know if it's still flying? It was built a week before Tcraft closed.

These are the decisions that turn a one year project into a 4 year project! I think there are a couple of questions you need to ask yourself. The first is; what path will result in the wings/aircraft being restored to minimum acceptable standards. If this is legitimately achievable without dismantling, then your're good with just touching up varnish/paint. The objective should be to remove corrosion and weathered wood and then restore the integrity of the components and finish to protect the wood steel and aluminium for the life of the aircraft (to the next fabric job which could be 20-30 years with polyester, as opposed to 5 years max with linen). In my view this would mean touching up with a brush so no masking required. If more than touch ups are necessary the only way to ensure you achieve the objective is to dismantle, otherwise its just cosmetic.

Note that to get the ribs off the spar, 8ea 3/32 rivets must be drilled out and 16 nails pulled from EACH rib! Properly stripping, cleaning, etching and refinishing of all the parts takes months, and reassembly, fabric and paint takes several months more all of course depending on whether or not you have help (and a life other than rebuilding your Taylorcraft!)

I started wing assembly in June. I have one wing painted in the base colour, and the other stitched but still needing gussets, doilies, tapes, poly-coats and topcoat. I had some help with rib lacing, and I've also covered and top-coated the ailerons, but otherwise I've averaged about 8 hours per day on the wings (but I'm slow).

My problem is I can't see going to all this trouble and not doing the complete job, but that's MY problem

Best of luck with your project(s)
